Getting tired of CS:S lockups

I have no idea whats causing them. I heard it could be my router but I can't really unhook it long enough to test it because other ppl are using it aswell. I can be playing and all of a sudden it locks up. Sometimes I can get back to desktop to terminate it but sometimes I have to reset my system. Every now and then I get a could not read from memory or some crap error.

I got a 3000+ 64 @ 2.2 and the memory at 208(Corsair VS). I've primed my CPU for roughly 24 hours and memtested my memory for roughly the same. Anyone have any ideas? I am running a non o/c 6600GT and am using the latest drivers on everything(last I checked anyway).

This seems to be happening about every time I play. BTW it did this before I ever o/ced so that ain't it.

Ask the other people to give you some time to test your router?

Set your hardware to stock and then try it. Make sure your PSU is giving enough power.

Yep. Just because it's primed and tested doesn't mean it will really put out. The easiest connection is that your OCing is causing the lockups. If you can get rid of that theory, then I really have no clue why it'd lockup. A router isn't going to cause a game to lockup.

Have you verfied tour GFC files? Search on steam support and verify that they are all right. I don't belive it tells you if it finds any thing wrong though. It just fixes it.

Here is a link if that doesn't work just type verify on the steam support page.

I have been having these exact same problems and honestly there is nothing I have been able to do to fix them. I have completely reformatted TWICE and tried everything valve/steam recoommended and I still get them but not as frequently. It sounds silly but the people I talked to with the same problems said that their's went away after a while. Anyways, are you using a 3rd party audio program like teamspeak? I was having 10x more lockups when using Teamspeak and source during scrims or cal matches. Switched back to vent and it got a lot better.

I'll agree with Bay, If I used team speak I was gaurenteed to get a lock up, essepcially if I alt tabbed alot. I also has these memory errors alot anyways when I first started playing. I havn't had them in months now.

I did that and sure enough after running that it started d/ling stuff when I tried to launch the game so either something was bad or I caught a update(which is unlikely). Lets see how it goes in the next day or so.

Good luck hope it fixes your problems. But they did just release an update. Two new maps (de_inferno remake, and brand new De_port) and a few other fixes.

BFG 6600GT OC and last I checked I had the latest from Nvidia which was a couple weeks ago. I haven't played any CS:S today so but I am betting the problem might be fix(or am hoping anyway).

Are you running your video card overclocked or stock? Try running at stock speeds and play with the video settings in CS.

do you still get the lockups? I don't get the memory errors now that I have switched over to Ventrillo. But i still get teh quick little 5-7 in game freezes, in which I can still play normally, but freezing for even 1 second isn't good, esp. in cal.

I've been getting complete crashes recently. In HL2 also...i have the latest drivers and patches installed: 9800pro on an asus a7n8x board w/athlon 3000+ cpu and 1 gb of ram. Power isn't a problem in Doom 3 so it's fine here i'm certain. I was thinkin memory leaks?

I dont have any 3rd party software running with CS.

Man it's good to be back though :D

I haven't having crashes lately too, which is weird since I didn't have any problems at all when I first got it. I'm still thinking mine is a result of unstable overclock though, but was stable through my doom3 play and I didn't have any issues until recently so who knows. (maybe the fact that its warming up outside caused it? I dunno, I upped the voltage one notch and that seems to have reduced it but I can't really say.)

I used to get the whole world kind of artifacting...I could still move but the ground was white and all the walls were missing. The crashes recently the game locks on repeating a sound, plays the default windows bing (which means there is an invisible dialog box popping up), and I can exit the game by hitting enter repeatedly...maybe alt-f4.

The game still has a lot of bugs, so I'm sort of hesitant to blame my hardware just yet...and its actually not that bad.

I just find it humerous that I had been playing cs:s since the day it came out and this stuff just started happening a couple weeks ago.
