Hello all,

As a Canadian living in the States, I am not familiar with certain parts of the credit system here. I was complaining to an American about the number of unsolicited credit card offers I get weekly. He told me that the offers had to include an 800 number that I could call that would prevent my name from coming up on non-authorized searches. By calling it, it will essentially remove me from the three big credit reporting agency's unauthorized search lists for the next two years.

I just got a new offer yesterday, opened it up, found the number and called it today. Hopefully it means I will stop getting this unwanted mail.

For those interested, the number is (888)567-8688. Enjoy.

Welcome to America, the land of the free and the home of unsolicited mail.

Thnaks for the # :)

As college students, my roommates and I actually don't mind junkmail. We usually receive nothing but bills or packages we buy online. Of course, pre-approved credit cards are always so tempting... They know how much I spend. ;) I get twice as many offers as my 4 roommates combined.

Of 8 pieces of mail yesterday, 7 of them were credit card offers. I'm still at a toss up as to which generates more credit card spamming - being a college student, or buying your first home.

Thanks for the phone number..I often worry about all that physical credit spam and want to stop it. Too many people get in way too much trouble from this credit marketing practice.

I probably get about 1 or 2 a week. I just ignore them, I have a credit card and I don't think I really need another one ;) I spend enough money as it is :)

I only get the "0% APR for the next 6 months, no annual fee, up to $3,000 limit, ... And oh, BTW... 23.99% interest!"

Do they think I'm crazy? Desperate? I'd have to be both to take them up on it.

My first card ever was at <15%, there isn't a chance in hell I'm paying 23.99%, or even 15.99%.
