Happens once in awhile, haven't seen it in a few weeks, now I've gotten it twice tonight. Everything seems to be working fine though.

if you are using xp/2k, what does it say in event viewer?

What do you have to do to get that screen to come up?

Does it happen every time you try to open ie?

What h/w?
What software have you got running in the background?

event viewer doesn't say much, it just repeats the same information as the error popup.

It doesn't happen everytime I open IE, I open/close it at least 100 times a day, and I only see the error maybe once every couple of days.

As far as hardware goes, the "my system" link in my signature is current, everything I've got is in there. As for software, I don't usually have much open, so chances are the only things running when the error happened were AIM and probably Outlook Express.

I'm also on SP2, and I don't remember seeing the error before then either. Hmmmmm....

Turned on the computer this morning, and as soon as I entered my PW to log in, I got a blue stop screen. The error was "page_fault_in_nonpaged_area", then there was the standard bluescreen info in the middle, then the long error code. I had a chance to copy the whole thing down, its...

(0X00000050, 0XE14A600, 0X00000001, 0X805D937C, 0X0000001)

And at the bottom it said

beggining dump of physical memory
dumping physical memory to disk: XX

Where XX is was a counter, it went up to 100, took about 10 minutes then restarted, and everything is working fine now.

Got similar errors from running TotalSize. It's a background program which can be easy to forget about. Spyware could be at fault too.

I know I'm treading on thin ice with this one, but SP2 is a HUGE mistake. It disables programs, like blackice & nortons (below 2004). A SP should NOT disable ANY proggies! If you have it, uninstall it. You may not notice anything bad right off the bat, but you WILL.

SP2 can be a huge mistake, but then again, if we go down the ms route, then we have to put up with it!!
there are patches for sp2, and there will be patches for the patches etc.........

There are certain things that we can do to ease some of the probs with sp2 -
1- uninstall firewalls before
2- disable avirus
3- disable most progs that start with win....
Just for starters

Ok - not a poifect solution, but.... might be worth uninstalling sp2, then reinstalling it taking the remedial precautions listed above.
Also, make sure there are no ADWARE/SPYWARE/MALWARE on your system before installation of sp2.
USE adaware and Spybot = both free - both very good.
Some recommend ccleaner [i never used it, so can't tell you how good it is]

Nortons and BlackIce are huge mistakes. Haven't had a single issue with SP2 on the 4 computer's I've installed it on.
