I went to the local Micro Center to see when they would be able to sell the Core i7 and motherboards. They have them in stock, but cannot sell them until tomorrow, the 16th. I was able to purchase the Patriot triple channel 6GB DDR3 1600 kit though. I bought that and a PC P&C 750W power supply. Now all I need is the Core i7 920 and Asus P6T they are going to hold for me.

You are supposed to end such posts/threads with a taunt, per the forum FAQ and Posting Guidlines.

Something to the effect of "nani nani na na, sucks to be the rest of you" would suffice. :p

edit: to be absolutely clear, this is a sarcastic post born from my jealousy, not an admonishment in any way for the folks who keep creating these kinds threads...please keep it up as many of us live vicariously thru you and your purchases nowadays.

Well, I just wanted to see who else is upgrading to these now that places can start to officially sell them.

Fry's said the Core i7 920 will be $330 and that they won't have motherboards available yet. MicroCenter also confirmed they'd have Core i7 for sale tomorrow but they couldn't give me a price. I also asked about their return policy and they said it is 15 days for CPU's and motherboards. I'll wait until Nov. 17 to see how much online retailers sell them for.

here's the taunt: gonna get myself a custom fused bloomfield with known uberclocking. the rest of you have to pay for a shot in the dark.

Now that's just hurtful, you cut me deep there. ;)

I'm really glad to hear of it actually. Nice to see Intel willing to work with their employees to enrich their lives all the further. Will you be able to post results of your exploits or are you expected to keep it on the confidential side of things?

We've had (and still do) the Asus P6T Deluxe and the Intel DX580 in stock. You can find them elsewhere too if you look around.

Bought my 920 on eBay today for $228... I'm not sure I am going to go through with buying an X58 + DDR3..... the mobos are just so expensive.

I want an i7 but I have no use for it.... pretty much all I do is game and i7 doesn't do much of anything for you there.

If I don't want it I'll sell it.... pretty sure I can get more than $228 for an unopened 920. :)

One thing that I am not sure about is the memory, no way am I going to pay $200 for 6GB DDR3..... will 3GB be enough to last at least 1-2 yrs? Capacity wise it would be a downgrade from the 4GB I have now. I don't know if games are going to start requiring 4GB+ soon, but 3GB isn't that much these days.

Why on earth was someone selling a 920 for $228? That's well below the sellers cost (unless its hot).

Cost was $289.99 (mwave) but eBay 25% cashback brings it down.

Cashback has been around for 5 months, you should heard of it by now :p

The 25% cashback seems to be dead now! :(

It went dead last night, then came back this morning..... who knows. Someday it will be gone but it has been "dead" many, many times and has come back every time so far.

If it were alive right now, it might be combined with the 10 or 15% ebay coupons that are being sent out! ;)

I'm happy for you. But I'm also happy that a new product line means the old stuff is on sale Thanksgiving weekend. I could buy 6 core2 duo setups for the price of one core i7, with Fry's closeout prices. To me core i7 is just a new toy to play with. But believe me, if I were rich, I would buy one also. Enjoy!

same boat, if i had the cash, i would go i7 x58 gt200 sli. (best gaming rig out there). But you're right, you can buy E4500 / motherboard combos for like $49 bucks @ frys now.

That MSI board is looking very attractive, at $80 cheaper than any other board (not counting the Intel one). I see that it only has 2 PCIe X16 slots. Does it still support both SLI and Crossfire? What else is it missing compared to the more expensive boards?

I picked up the CPU and motherboard today. Vista x64 is currently installing all of the drivers as I type this. The CPU Core i7 was $289.99 and the P6T Deluxe was $299.99. The Patriot DDR3 1600 6GB memory I bought two days ago was $289.99. Micro Center seems really good about prices on launch days. The E8400 I bought from them at the end of January was $186 dollars when everyone else had trouble getting them in and were charging $220+.

All drivers are installed and my Vista x64 OEM has been easily reactivated. Now all I need to do is clean up my computer room and put the side panels back on my Antec 900. Then I'll be all set to overclock. :)
