Hey everyone. I am interested in getting started in D/C. I read a post in ATOT the other day and that got me thinking about it. Then ssvegeta1010 sent me a PM and I decided to join up. I have a few spare Fedora boxe's that are not doing anything 🙂. So what do I need to do? What project should i join? How do I set this all up on fedora?

Thanks Everyone

Excuse my ignorance as I'm not too familiar with Fedora. I might be able to help If iI had a bit more info, like is this a name brand running windows or linux or is this proprietary hardware running a unique operating system.

And if I can't help...just hang loose and as team-mates get home from work someone will beable to help.

And Welcome to The TeAm

Welcome to the TeAm, TechITguy 🙂

You can find lots of information about the projects the TeAm runs in the "TeAm Anandtech" link in my sig.

I think most of the projects will run on Linux. I know that Folding@Home has a console client that can also be run as a service for Linux OSes.

Whichever project you decide on, drop by and say Hi once in a while. Some projects have someone who does a stats or TeAm update thread like this one.

You can see we try to keep it fun 😀

Welcome to the TeAm! 😀

The FaD TeAm really needs help and it's a great project with lots of available stats. 🙂 They have a Linux client too! Just enter team 2039 when you setup the client and you're in.

Welcome to the Team Anandtech, TechITguy! 🙂

All projects need help, some more than others. For most of us, it boils down to personal preferances. I suggest reading through the links provided on the different projects, and pick the one(s) that appeal most to you. 🙂

And BadThad,
Shameless neffing
isn't that an oxymoron? 😛

lol! 😀

Alright. I am going to get setup with Einstein@home on a few machines. What do I need to join the team?

Well, thats really simple.
Go to the einstein@home page, log in to your account, on your account page in the 4th section there is a option team, and a link how to join. If you click this link you will get to page which - after som searching - lets you select the team you want to join - in this case TeAm Anandtech. 😀

It is much easier this way, your comp, op-system, etc do not matter, you do niot need any codes etc. Just find the team and join ... 🙂

Well, so we will see you in the stats as soon as you have sent in some result(s) - thats great!
Very welcome to the team - and see you around! 😉

Welcome to the E@H TeAm, TechITguy 🙂

It's usually recommended to have a backup BOINC project for when or if your main project runs out of work or has server problems.

Hey petrusbroder - which project would you recommend for a backup?

Is LHC@Home still taking new members and giving out work?

LHC@home is giving out WUs just now .... but they are quite few. I do not think that they are taking more new members just now: they have just (hmmm - few months ago) added 8000 members, and I think there are some 10 000 - 12 000 (I may be wrong) members now.

Thanks for the question - now I can shamelessly promote my favorite BOINC-projects:
seti@home, einstein@home, LHC@home, predictor@home.
On my PCs I have seti@home, LHC@home, predictor@home running. When seti is down or LHC do not have WUs then predictor crunches full time.
Om my Macs I have seti@home, einstein@home, predictor@home running since there is no Mac-client for LHC@home.
I have all my crunchers running all the time - no dead time at all...

You could also run ClimatePrediction (CPDN) but (and this is my personal opinion, nothing bad about CPDN), these WUs take such a long time that I can not wait for the real credits to come in. I have experienced that the credit which is awarded while the WU is running (kind of "predicted" credit) often is too low .... Most of my crunchers would take some 5 - 7 weeks to finish one CPDN-WU.
However, if you have a fast cruncher and a lot of RAM then CPDN is realy fun to run.
