"The mobo is an Asus A8n-SLI deluxe. The proc is a 2 GHz AMD athlon FX-64."

The mobo I found at Newegg here:

I'm a little more confused about the FX-64. I thought that S939 FX chips only went up to FX-60, and the later chips, like the FX-64, were AM2.

So these were supposedly the parts out of someone's old rig, so they must be compatible, right? Something doesn't make sense here.

Can someone that remembers the FX-64 S939 CPU describe it?

From my knowledge, and what I've gathered so far from google, socket 939 ended with the FX-60 @ 2.6Ghz, and AM2 brought the FX-62 @ 2.8Ghz. The FX-64 never officially got released because it would have been 3.0Ghz, and the X2 6000 @3.0Ghz got released instead.

FX-60 2.6GHz is the highest clocked official s939 chip. Anything higher is AM2 and later.
