getting sick and tired of amd drivers

I never had any issues with AMD drivers with my HD6970. Everything worked great. I recently moved back to NVIDIA with a GTX970 and have had plenty of issues, which can be expected with the launch of a new card, but the experience hasnt been great so far. Most of the issues have been fixed, but there is clear lack of quality control in NVIDIA drivers.

I didn't have any issues with my former HD 5770 except for Rage

What I do think is very negative for AMD drivers though is that they move older GPUs to legacy so early.
AMD doesn't even release Vista drivers for its DX11 GPUs anymore.

Does AMD have issues with Crossfire profiles (if there is such a thing on them) like Nvidia does with SLI profiles? Meaning we often have to wait for a new driver release to get SLI profiles for the latest games or new games having issues with a particular profile.

The worst OS Microsoft has ever released that's nearing 3.5 generations old? I wouldn't either.

Only issue I had was the 7970 wake from sleep issue. That was a long time ago. And that's with 7970. 290x CF and a single 290x work flawlessly. I also think You might have another issue with your system.

EDIT: noticed a sentence wasn't making sense. Fixed

OMEGA + Win8.1 😀
great Drivers and support. AMD do the Homework great, cuz Omega are drivers without ~10.000 minor bugs (takes about a Year of completing)
Great Performance in all games DX9, DX10, DX11.2 etc. + All smooth in Emulators 😀

What a wonderful thread.

Rage was the issue, and not the other way around. That game was buggy as hell on release. By the same token, why don't you ask some of the owners of 7xx cards about how they feel? AMD gets bad press regardless of whether they do something good/ bad.I'm sure there has to be a logical explanation, and i do wish they come out and share.

Some of the rebranded cards have support, but i can be wrong. May be, one can try flashing vbios and see how that works? Though i'd read about it, before doing anything.

What a wonderful thread.

Indeed. We have the OP post a problem that he is having, and then we get a ton of people whose posts do not help his situation at all. Simply amazing. There were a few on the first page that tried to give advice, but it looks like the OP has abandoned the thread...

Exactly what I was thinking, lol.

Yeah, sometime, it sucks. You need to eliminate all sources. Start with just the bare minimium to get the card booted. Sometimes, that means a fresh install. One time, my pc would freeze everytime I would try to install drivers for my 290x. I tried many things (driver cleaner, fresh install, bios update, reseting bios, etc.). I thought it was my gpu. Turns out it was a faulty DVD drive. Go figure.

Hey guys, lets try to get back to focusing on helping the OP. Post your own driver issues or the lack of in another thread please.

help?
ok across
h81 chipset
h61 chipset
970 chipset
all bios newish or semi current
3 different psus all 80 plus 500w,550w,350w(OCZ,'S,ANTEC)
clean windows 7
clean windows 8.1

1 r250x
17870xt
4 different mem configurations
similar issues
freeze on sleep
issues swapping between vga/dvi=hdmi(NOT HOT SWAP,power down, drag to other display and boot)
im either incompetent
or these drivers are janky
never in 17yrs have i had issues like this
not with amd, not with nvidia, not with kyro
i wanna install a device driver
and display to my preferred output
names like omega
catalyst
craptr
all these things i couldnt care less about
i want 1080p and a card device driver that understand what its outputting to w/o freaking out
and one that wont crash my machine(s) if it goes to standby
i dont wanna overclock
i dont want custom profiles
i certainly dont want points and fancy splash screens
i want utility
to work

and yea it is a rant, it pisses me off
im not asking for the moon
i dont mind some sunk time
what i do mind is a lack of confidence in the software to not crash my machine, transient as it may be
ive lost work bc of it
im forced to do w/o standby so i can just burn my displays or power down

Freeze on sleep has been an issue with windows 7; where the hd actually doesn't wake up. I'm so used to turning that off I've had so many issues trying to get hd's wake up. Win 8 not sure I can attempt to test that for it.

I have 7870 TX - I'll get monitor sleep bug on on main monitor but not on my TV if its only plugged into my tv through HDMI. If its plugged in dvi-d it will rarely not come back from sleep and its a quick unplug dvi-d and plug back in. Its just compatiblity issue with the monitor itself; monitor isn't reconizing the wake up signal until its reconnected.

If you want me to test anything I will I'm running Omega on 8.1.....which drivers have you used.

Freeze on sleep can be a few things; if you unplug the monitor and plug it back in and it wakes; possiblity of a cable. If it doesn't it very well could be hd not waking up which would cause you issues.

Can you try turning off putting hd into sleep?

To make sure its not something else, we should get all your specs of the current system. For instance, are you sure it is not an HDD issue? A black screen on boot could be a symptom of a failing HDD. Have you checked the SMART data?

This may have been mentioned...

If you have an older AMD mobo/CPU, and you do a straight full install of the drivers, your system will hang on boot. Why you ask? Because the catalyst drivers installed in automatic also install other AMD drivers. For me on my 790GX chipset system, it was the AHCI driver that always broke my system. So I had to do a custom install and exclude that driver.

I should note I did not have this issue with the Omega drivers.

amd fan
it seems across the 7 series and r series i have issue after issue
latest one is black screen after windows logo post driver install
win764bit
not running esoteric setups
single display
3 display types
same damn problem

I just upgraded to the Omega drivers yesterday and had no problem at all, straight forward install. Not sure why you're having issues?
