Getting Satellite ISP

My parents live out in the woods (well sort of) in Sapulpa, OK.

There are no ISPs that will provide service to their home, which is very funny but sad as the Walmart is round the corner, so its really not all that out in the woods.

The only way I see that they can have broadband at home is by using a Satellite ISP.

Does anyone have suggestions or recommendations as to what service provider we should use?

Also, what are the cautions and pitfalls we need to be aware of?

Expect slow UPLOADS and variable (but always high) latency. Some ISPs may limit your download volume. Satellite and RF broadband connections are usually pretty miserable for online action games, VOIP, and remote access functions, but are OK for web browsing and most email.

But, hey, if it's all they can get, it's all they can get.

look into wireless ISPs in the area and see if one offers coverage that can reach your parents. If the company is decent it'll be far, far better than satellite.

Check into cellular broadband. The company I use is www.millenicom.com No contracts, solid $50/month. Equipment is even free of charge. Just make sure their area is in a sprint evdo covered area. I use it for mobile work when I'm not at home. They even have a link on their website for a router that will work with their broadband usb card.

How it works is you phone in what website you want to see, an employee at Hughesnet will print out the page for you and send it to you in the mail...
