Just to clarify one thing..are you saying that my xp box that is running with the setting 'No paging file' is anyway secretly using the page file?

Yes. A 20MB file called temppf.sys is created in the system32 folder.

And I defy you to tell me where the "no paging file setting" is.

Here is where 😉

I'll be damned.

I need to spend more time on XP before opening my big mouth, don't I?

The "no paging file" setting appears to be per drive. Setting *all* drives to "no paging file" is what's not recommended. I know (because I tested it) that W2K will create a temppf.sys file if there's no paging file set. I suspect, but have not tested, that XP will do the same.

Nope there is no temppf.sys in either my work box or home box (both got the 'no paging file' setting Windows XP Pro 1 Gb Ram)

No worries..🙂 I have to say that you and a lot of other regulars here are very knowledgeable, even if you might not have so much experiance with XP Pro.

That's because we know enough to avoid XP =)

Sarcasm aside there are plenty of "regulars" here who use XP Pro.
I use XP Pro with 2K Pro in a mixed enviroment, they both have their uses.

I had XP Pro on my notebook for a few weeks, it's since been replaced with Win2K. I'd like to put Linux on that notebook, but as much as I don't like it it's good to have 1 Windows machine around just in case.
