Getting rid of Web Site leftovers...

I have visited several websites that seem to "stay" in my address bar and I want to get rid of them. By "stay" I mean if the site was www.anandtech.com and I open up IE and begin to type www.a then it will automatically complete www.anandtech.com for me or even worse another site that starts with "a" like www.amautergirls.com but you get the picture. I've tried to remove these "leftovers" by going Tools >> Internet Options >> Delete Files and Clear History, but this does not solve the problem. Does anyone know where this info is stored and how to get rid of it???

Thanks :)

You can also try setting your History to 0 or 1. TweakUI also includes a "Paranoia" function that will clear "Internet Explorer History" at every logon.

Go to Tools_Internet Options_Content_Auto Complete then you can clear forms/passwords.

:| It's still doesn't work. I've tried all the suggestions here and none of them work. I even downloaded Tweak UI and that doesn't seem to get rid of the website stuck in my address bar either. If you click on the drop down address bar it does not show. But if you start to type [www. then the first letter of the site it displays]. Does anyone have any other suggestions or does anyone know where IE keeps the address links so I can manually delete them??? :|

Try "Evidence Eliminator". A bit expensive but it works and WILL do what you are wanting it to do.

Strych9 and DAM are right. Clear the AutoComplete history, and turn the thing off too; it's more annoying than useful anyhow.

Clearing history does something else entirely.

Not that its impossible, but it is difficult to believe that the steps others have suggested are not working. I've done it a million times. Let's go step by step...

In Internet Explorer
1) Go to the file menu and under "Tools" select "Internet Options...".
2) Click the "Content" tab.
3) In the section labeled "Personal Information" click the "AutoComplete" button.
4) In the "Use AutoComplete for... section un-check "Web Addresses" (and probably "Forms" as well).
5) In the "Clear AutoComplete history" section, clear both Forms and Passwords.

This should do it, but just to make sure...

6) Right click on the Task Bar, select Properties, click the Advanced tab, and clear the History.

If this works, let us know! :)

I find it really useful, esp when entering in forms
