Getting rid of raccoons?

take a glass of milk or what ever racoons eat and mix some phenol
and have it there 😛
phenol kills humans so i guess it even kills racoons

I put a live trap out for raccoons last year and caught a freakin skunk.

That was hard to release without getting sprayed.

they're kinda like rats. you can't really get rid of them, you just have to get rid of whatever is attracting them to your place.

Seriously. Kill them. Racoons will never go away. You can try the whole live trap thing but unless you take them realllllly far away they will come back. They might look cute but they are nothing more then hostile oversized rats that WILL bite you or your kids or anyone else nearby if they get too close. Even their frigging babys are mean. Do whatever you have to get rid of them. Shoot them if you can, otherwise poison (dish of raw hamburg and antifreeze works well, and you probably already have that around) them, if that's not possible, beat them over the head with a 2x4. They deserve it, don't feel bad about it.

You need to be banned, if there is no food raccoons should not be bothering a property.

Also leaving out a hamburger/antifreeze mix can possibly kill many things not intended. If you are going to use poisions you need to be responsible.

I don't know where you have been exposed to these aggressive raccoons though unless you provoked them first.

We get several in our cat food for the ferals we feed. That food is about 3' from my workshop door. I pass by raccoons eating occasionally and they have never shown any type of aggression.

Leave them alone. You shouldn't be seeing them most of the time. If they're out during the day, and act aggressive, then it's time to do something. Be happy you have something that looks like wildlife in your urban wasteland.

So I live in a relatively industrial area, but that doesn't make us immune to raccoons apparently.

My neighbor says they lurk in a nearby tree along with the rest of the family..

What should I do to get rid of these little rabies carrying suckers?

the official solution given to me from the PA Game commission was the following:

Take a sealable sandwich baggy (not the foldover ones) and fill it FULL with ammonia, then seal.
Cover the outside of the baggy with peanut butter.
Place right next to garbage cans (or area from which you wish them to never return).
Repeat 2-4 times until raccons never return.

It works believe me.

That would work! Brilliant idea. I think I may try it for the squirrel that's been digging up my squash seeds. The sucka keeps hitting the tethered rat traps I put out and can't learn a lesson.

I somehow doubt this came from the PA Game commission.

If they're not causing you grief just leave them. Otherwise you could either trap and bring them elsewhere or find another humane way.

Make sure to feed them if they're desperate for food. I'd be curious to know for sure if this is true, but I think if you feed rodents and other animals they're less likely to break into your house and cause damage. Where I used to camp a lot, the squirrels, chipmunks, and even some rabbits were fairly domesticated from us feeding them and they never, ever caused damage to our trailers, tents or whatever else we had up. Heck, sometimes a cooler full of food/pop would be left outside.

At least two misdemeanours and one possible felony you've suggested in there.
Good fuckin' job, asshole.
Go away.

Just for the non-outdoor crowd (90% of ATOT), raccoons are extremely intelligent and have thumbs they know how to use. Their one weakness is their curiosity. You do not want to leave food out and should wash empty cans if you don't already. They will rummage through trash cans and dumpsters because they know they can find food there.

You can contact your local animal control and, unless you live in Florida or somewhere else they are found in large numbers, they will attempt to live trap them. They tend to be grumpy old souls and trying to scare them is a BAD idea. Also, if you have outdoor pets, bring them in at sundown and lock any pet doors. They don't like loud noise as in barking dogs, music, lawn mower etc. The good news is they are omnivorous and if you got raccoons, you aint got rats.

You are in greater danger for rabies and disease from rabbits than you are from raccoons. They also have routines and generally take the same paths until some change is made in their environment. They love water and playing and washing. Just a few thoughts from an old camper.

we used to catch possums with just an empty trashcan that had 1ft of water in the bottom + sandbags to keep it from tipping.

might work w/ raccoons
