Getting rid of permanent marker...

'K, yeah... some a$$hole down the hall scrawled something on my bulletin board in permanent black ink.... is there any solvent that will completely get rid of the marker and the stain? I'm using some beloved patriot 'n span type stuff now, but if anyone knows of something that will take it clean off, that'd be ideal.

Any ideas?

I remember Goof Off took off permanent ink well. If you can't find any of that stuff, try rubbing the board with acetone (dry erase marker).

Yeah, well, people have been idiots long before permanent marker was invented.... there's almost always a way to undo something like this. (hence, goo gone, etc).

this reminds me of that time when my girlfriend traced my naked body on the glass panel of a shower stall with dry erase marker. we left it there for my roommate to find. when the housecleaning ladies came to clean up our bathroom they wanted to call the police. my roommate and i tried to take off the marker before they came back and we tried everything, but the marker solution must have gotten into some of the cracks of the opaque glass door. a little acetone cleaned it right up though, try using nail polish remover. i learned my lesson, never leave naked tracings of yourself for others to find.

Umm... An incredibly useful and easy tip:

non - permanant marker will dissolve permanant marker and you can wipe it off. just go over the are with some non-permanant marker (assuming its a smooth surface like a white board and not something that soaks up ink like wood) and wipe it off.

I vouch for this trick. In one of my classes, somebody used permanent ink accidentally, so we wrote over it in the regular pens that are supposd to be used on it, and voila! Gone
