Getting rid of moles from the yard

At my mom's house she has 3 male cats that love this time of year. We call it the moleocaust.

I have a dog that loves this time of year. Cats are patient. They sit and wait for the moles to appear, then they pounce. My dog... if he smells the mole, he's going to get the mole. Mole can't hide from the dog, because the dog can dig, and dig he does. "Oh, smells like a mole under the tree? I'll just excavate a complete tunnel under the tree." The dog has OCD.

She'd have holes all over the yard from that dog haha. I actually looked up the little guys last night and I think they are shrews, not moles. Whatever they are, they get slaughtered this time of year especially after a good rain.

Is he for rent?

If I was not allergic to cats i would get a cat that can go outdoors but being Minnesota the winter would not work when the cat needs shelter.

After a couple years of being dog free, have one in the back yard again. Not sure if it's cause he's young a likes to do stupid things, smells old scent, or some current ones but he's tried to do some digging along the edge of the yard like that.

I've had luck with getting gophers our of the yard by planting Euphorbia lathyris. Its suppose also work for moles, just plant a few around the yard.

Unless he has children, that plant is poisonous according to the never wrong wikipedia.

I think i was successful in getting my voles early. I haven't seen them around for a week and there's no activity in or around their holes. the poison i left there is untouched. furthermore, it's been raining the last couple days, and the holes seem to be flooded. does that mean i win?? i was going to gas them with my snowblower to be sure but it's been raining so much.

Pumping CO into the hole as we speak... we shall see how well this works.
We basically put big rocks over all exposed holes, and the biggest air hole they had got a direct feed of the CO, then collapsed the dirt over the hose.

So far, so good. No new holes anyplace.
Will need to give it a couple more weeks before I know for sure if they are all dead.

Coffee grounds and cayenne pepper can be sprinkled on the holes in addition to dawn dish detergent and castor oil for moles. Because moles are extremely sensitive to noise and vibration, another alternative is to install noise and vibration devices.
