Getting rid of Elbow Tendonitis for good

After having elbow tendonitis (tennis elbow) from lifting for about six months, I'm finally back in the gym. It was pretty bad at one point and I had to completely stop lifting for a few months. Now it's manageable. Thanks mostly to resting, taking a supplement called Elbow Revive, and doing some stretches daily. However, I've plateaued and want this to be gone for good. Has anyone had experience with anything specific (other than stretches and Elbow Revive) that has really worked? I really appreciate all suggestions.
 
I've dealt with elbow pain issues due to squatting heavy with bad form where some of the weight hit my elbows/forearm area, as well as benching heavy twice a week. Mine was more on the point of the elbow where the triceps and forearm tendons insert. I used a Theraband Flexbar a few times a day (look up Tyler Twists) and just strengthened the forearm area. I was only out for about 3 weeks (but then again I heal fast for an old man).

Some of the ingredients in the Elbow Revive pills you take are dubious at best, like cissus quadrangularis. The studies for that supplement are 3 decades old (60's/70's) and that's what many of the supplement suppliers quote; the more recent studies deal with bone issues, not tendons. I tried it and it did nothing. Glucosamine/Chondroitin/MSM (NOW brand) I have had luck with, however. I would just try taking that instead because it has related recent studies (regarding the knee cartilage though, not elbow) that back it and it's cheaper. The rest of the ingredients are just anti-inflammatories like Boswellia.

I can't talk specifically about the elbow, but I will say that I've had some success with Glucosamine, Chondroitin, and MSM. I should point out that the first time I used Glucosamine was for my dog who had a 'shoulder' problem. For her, around 80lbs, 1 pill a day made an immediate difference. Obviously there was no placebo effect. For me, I noticed no difference while taking 1 pill a day. Once I started taking 2 pills a day there was noticeable improvement.

Also, I'd talk with a sports doctor. As SP33Demon said, perhaps there are exercises that can help.
 
Figure out what's causing it. My golfer's elbow (inside point) went away just by switching from a "palms down" tricep work to a "hammer fist" position. So simple but took a long time to figure it out.
 
word. thanks for the tips. i'll stick with the Elbow Revive since it's been helping (at least I feel like it has been) and implement some more stretches and maybe get a new Theraband. will keep you posted on my progress.
 
So no change in your workouts/movements?


Expect the same results in the long run.


It's like taking steroids and not addressing the problem.
