Getting ready to install new Alpha 8942 hs w/ ys tech fan..

So can you summarize how this compares to your AVC cooler in performance, or have too many factors changed for a direct comparison?

I can say right now in prime95...all factors are similar...

I run 3c cooler with current case and room temp...

I run bout 6c cooler at load....

So obviously the swing from idle to load is better...

The sucking method appears to keep my radeon card clooer, ram cooler and sys temps for similar room temps is running 2-3c less...

Noise even at max 3600rpm is less!!! I am going to toss 2 old case fans and get 2 more of these ys tech fans....They make less noise and my hand tells me they push about 1.5x more air...

AVC is a top performer...

I suffer from a couple things....

1)recent hot temps for oregon mid 90s with 40-50 humidity...

2)Epox mobos tend to be running higher temps then some of these asus mobos...

I happy I gpt better performance at less noise....

I haven't also gone long enough to possibly break AS2 in...I am running same temp now as I did with 1-2c cooler sys temp last night...I will give it its 3 days and hope I get that same 3-4c I got with my last avc setup....

Also How much better is AS3 then AS2???

I'm in Spokane, it was roasting here Friday (104F) and they decided to let us go home at noon. And I have a 3.5-mile uphill bicycle ride to get home, too. 😛 So I know what you mean about the weather affecting things.

I got a tube of AS3 and used it on my Duron in place of AS2 recently. The CPU now runs 2-3C cooler, relative to the mobo temperature (as measured by an insensitive socket thermistor), so I think it is definitely effective... that probably translates into a 4-8C drop in actual core temp.

Now I really want some of those YS Tech fans myself, after reading your remarks about them 😀

The cpu temps were about the same but the hot air being blown onto the mobo was unforgiving to my sys temps....

I need to work on getting my intake to pull better and spread the air...HOwever with case close I only run about 3-4 c warmer then air...so I may not be able to do much better....

hehe, that's where we differ. My temps go up with my case open. 😛

I'm at 23c ambient idle right now, 28c cpu idle.
Not so bad, I think my negative pressure helps keep my ambient low. I know my room's only about 60c or less though, so with my addition of the second tornado and 2 more Y.S. Tech fans I should have considerably cooler temps.

I'm trying to hit DDR480 with my Sammy DDR333. So far it won't do it with my current situation, I'm going to get some active ramsinks for it and see what I get with that. If it's still a no go, I'm tossing this RAM and going to buy either some Corsair XMS PC3200 or Mushkin PC3200, as both seem to be performing very well. 🙂

Duvie, thx for the info. The 8942 + YSTech is the exact combo I'm probably going to be purchasing and it's good to see some numbers and performance reviews.
