Getting ready to build a new gaming rig

Case: Lian Li PC-V1000 PlusII
PSU: Seasonic M12 700W
MB: eVGA 680i
CPU: E6600
GPU: 8800GTX
RAM: Crucial Ballistix 2GBDDR2 1000 (PC2 8000)
HDD1: Raptor 150GB
HDD2: Seagate 320GB
CPU Heatsink: Zalman 9500

Just want to make sure everything is compatible. Has anybody had any problems installing the Zalman 9500 on this board? Please feel free to leave feedback.
 

I'm not fond of that case. It's basically large. And the disk drives end up being far from the mobo, so you end up buying longer cables.

I've used the Cooler Master Praetorian a few times now, and I really prefer that.

2nd drive is a Seasonic?!? Did you mean Seagate?
 
I would go with a better PSU .. make sure its not Thermal take
what i mean is get more Watts on it like 1000
it would be better for upgrading to better stuff later
everything else looks great
gamin rig needs good cooling

can i have some of what you are smoking on? seasonic is one of the most respected names in psus and they put out a good amount of their rated capacity, not like a rosewill you get with a $30 case.....

Puff puff give... I mean, QFT. That Seasonic would be fine for that machine. I have a Corsair 620w (which are made by Seasonic, BTW) powering a 8800GTX, E6400, 4 120x38mm fans, and 7 hard drives. I'm sure the 700w can handle the E6600, 8800GTX, and fewer hard drives. And in reference to the question about what cooler for that EVGA, check out this thread. You will find it immensely valuable.

EDIT: And do you mean Samsung or Seagate for HDD2?

I could, but I'm busy with my own life.
I've got work to deal with, rigs of my own to upgrade and keep going. Relationships with family and friends to tend to.

Sorry, but I just don't have the time to review your components. :roll:

 
It looks like a great rig. Enjoy it. Plus you will be totally fine with that PSU.

Why would you respond? What is the point? Stop being a troll. The guy asked for help and he asked politely. If you haven't realized, that is one reason why people come to these forums. Its a very big reason actually. I've found the people here to be very helpful and knowledgeable.

I don't understand what your drive was to respond like this . . .
 
Thank you Fullmetal Chocobo for the link, the modding done to the 9500 seems easy enough. And thank you everybody else for the responses. I just hope my build will experience few problems if any.

after you build it stress it hard - seriously - on all of my builds, the first thing i do after i get the os installed and updated and a a/v on is put on orthos/prime95 and run it for 12+hrs and also memtest or 12+hrs, then loop 3dmark for a couple of hours. imo it is easier to get stuff fixed and replaced within a couple of weeks than 8mos later. plus it will save you from a lot of config/tuning if there is an issue.
 
Is there any point in going the 680i route if you aren't going to use SLi?

Especially with a processor with as high of a multiplier as the E6600, you don't need a board capable of more than 425 FSB to achieve an air overclock of 3825MHz (425 x 9)... in which case you're going to hit a 'silicon limit' before you reach the 'I chose bad components' limit.

May I suggest the BX2?

there is absolutely nothing wrong with that PSU except the fact that it is overkill.
 
tcG I do plan to eventually run an SLI setup, but right now two 8800GTX cost quite a bit, I'll probably buy another one when the price drops.
 
Read some online reviews (including the one on Anandtech). The Tuniq120 tower is cheaper and cools better than the Zalman 9500 or 9700.
