getting ready to build a 3800+ X2 system...need some expertise

I dont need it on the cpu but I am wondering what ppl have heard about the Neo4-f mobo....will it be good for ocing to 240HTT???

I only plan to do moderate ocing and to use my TT venus 12 which kept my current X2 cool to within 5-6c of my XP-90 at 2.6ghz....I am hoping for 2.4ghz near default vcore and use the heatsink and dial the fan speed down and keep temps in the low 50's max....

I am going to get the board and new pci-express vid card first and put my extra 3000+ winnie in there and jack it up to 2.4ghz at default vcore if I can for time being...then I may wait to see if the X2 3800+ price comes down a bit. I need to get him a better PSU before the X2 so that is why I am going to phase it in...

I am looking for a modstream 470-520 or an enermax of that range with pci-express plugs....

512mb of pc3200 (he doesn't need 1gb yet)

470-520 watt PSU

has rest of the components like DVD drives, burners, HDDs, network cards, sound, etc....
 
From the Neo-4 thread, it looks like the new Processors from AMD will only OC past 219 with the july beta bios.... Keep in mind, I'm just repeating what was said in the thread. I don't own one of those mobos!
 
Also, they have Moltex to PCI-E converters.. Takes 2 free moltex to power 1 PCI-E card that needs the external power...
 
his son doesn't look like he'll need the 6600GT or x800GT... I doubt that he'll be playing intense games, and even if he is, I would choose extra ram over the better video card.

but ur right, i dont know his son. still memory upgrades are dirt cheap, but uprading a gpu can be expensive. Plus a 6600gt imo has a better price/performance value, though it may cost 10-20$ more. save on the psu a lil (Tagan 2Force 430W ATX 2.0 ? 69,90 or 480W ATX 2.0 75,00) spend it for the gpu and add another 512mb.
 
hahaha.....Ofcourse he doesn't need an X2....BUt I would be running 2 FH instances non stop and he will just be gaming (nascar 2004, Tony Hawk, and NFSU2)...out of the gate he will just have my 3000+@2.4ghz range, coming from his AXP 2200+ running the memory at only pc2100 speeds....I will actually run his memory at pc3200 speeds and have a much better gaming cpu. That is why he needs a better vid card and there is no point in throwing more money in the DOA AGP format....


Hey I will take suggestions on PSUs....not set in stone there but I have seen way too many ppl having issues cause they are running under 400watt PSU with X2's and newer generation gaming cards...I want room to grow, and solid ocing ability....

Actually the thread I saw the guy got to 228 and had issues, but then used a divider AND WAS ABLE TO PUSH HIGHER....Sounds like typical user ignorance....It may not give what I need with the 3000+ though and its 9x multi...I need 266HTT and then I will use the 133 divider....
 
The 450w antec smartpower that came with my sonata II case has the 6pin PCIe power plug, my 6600GT doesn't use it though.
 
The MSI K8N Neo4-F seems like a great budget OCing mobo, though i would likely grab the Epox 9NPA+Ultra over the Neo4-F.

Edit: Whoa, that Neo4-F is damn cheap!

The Abit AN8-ULTRA is another good one for relatively cheap. Gotta love passive cooling's silence 🙂
 
i want the damn grouper to go with my 3800 🙂 i asked Ben at tankguys to see if he can get an ETA.

I really hope it actually makes it out. Sooner rather than later.

I will be seriously tempted to switch mobos to it based on it's sexy milk-white pcb & red trimmings 😀😛
