Getting RAID-1 working on ASUS A8N-SLI mobo

Has anyone been able to get two IDE drives to be setup as a single RAID-1 bootable OS drive with an ASUS A8N-SLI deluxe motherboard?

I spent a quite a bit of time trying to get this to work using the BIOS 1002 which my motherboard came with.

According to the docs to make this work you must setup the two matched target drives on the secondary IDE channel and setup your cd drive as the master on the primary IDE channel.

However, when I did this, the system POSTs and when it gets to the point where it should load the CD, it just hangs.

I am wondering if this is a BIOS 1002 bug and might be fixed in BIOS 1003. No documentation I have found provides enough info to figure this out. After reading all the issues with BIOS 1003, I am a bit nervous to update unless I know it will make RAID work.

Any ideas?

thanks,
John

Turns out flashing to BIOS 1003 allowed the CD drive to boot even with the 2 IDE drives installed. It also appears to upgrade the NVIDIA RAID controller from 4.76 to 4.78. Anyway it works now. Hope this note helps anyone trying to get this working.
