depends on your work, I guess. last two places, I worked in hospitals. knew the dock people quite well. they hand-delivered all the bits and pieces of my current system to my lab, as it arrived--including the big heavy metal case. last place, dude brought my 40lb floor-speakers to that lab. my current boss had her projector and and huge-ass screen delivered to our dock.

as cool as the dock people can be, the mail room tends to be the exact opposite. they really get pissed if personal mail comes through their room. they hold grudges.....

I have a lot of my stuff shipped to the lab I work in on campus. Much better than having to hope one of my roommates will be home to answer the door if UPS comes knocking or if the USPS doesn't feel like delivering something because no one was home...

I do it with anything semi-expensive... I just give the guys in shipping/receiving a heads up when I'm expecting something, they give me a call whenever it comes in, and I go downstairs to pick it up from them myself.

me too. i'm always worried that they are breathing down my shoulder and looking at everything i do. i've never had anything sent to work before, never even crossed my mind that i was allowed to do that.
