Getting out of gaming.. downsizing PC.. best way to network drives?

I'll be getting out of the gaming scene and swapping out my large tower case for a mini-itx Zotac Zbox machine that I'm currently using as an HTPC. I'm tired of all that noise and space being taken up by the tower.

I've switched over to Chromecast now for my HTPC needs however, I have been using that tower with Sickbeard/SABNzbd for downloads.

I have 4 or 5 SATA drives in there that I'm using to store photos and media to stream to my Chromecasts and will be wanting to buy a couple of more 2Tb drives soon. So, let's say 6 drives.

What's the best way to go about setting up my new network and maintain my Sickbeard / SABNzbd implementation?

I suppose I can migrate Sickbeard to my mini-itx machine, but I don't want all of its resources devoted to managing downloads when I'm working.

Budget is flexible.

thanks for your ideas..
robert.

What you want is a NAS. Probably the easiest and most cost effective thing to do would be to take your current gaming PC, remove the GPU (assuming it has an IGP), turn off the OC (if any) and stick it somewhere unobtrusive. Assuming the gaming PC is based on a somewhat modern platform, it should use very little power while idle. You can keep sharing your media out the same as you have before.

If reusing the PC isn't possible for some reason, we can talk about building a NAS from scratch.
