Getting out of Cell Phone Contracts

Has anyone gotten out of a cell phone contract before it ended? If so, how? I have a friend who's pretty disappointed with the reception at most of the places he stays/visits, and its past the return time for the contract. Any help would be appreciated...

You can do it but you most likely will have to pay a pnealty charge....read the fine print of the contract.

Just in case you're lazy, Sprint charges $150 to get out and AT&T knocks you for $175.
Like the previous poster said, you signed a contract when getting the phone. It clearly states how much you pay for breaking it in there. Or did that simple fact not cross your friend's mind?

Are you sure it's not the phone? I had really bad SprintPCS reception in my apartment. When I switched phones, the problem went away.

Also, I put up a passive repeater antenna.
