Getting noise down.

I have a black hydraulic case, two 80mm sunon fans and a superorb(seriously regretting bought it). I'm trying to get the noise down on my comp. I've read some reviews about how quiet water cooling pumps were, so how quiet are they really? Any other air cooling alternatives that would make less noise but still provide similar cooling to the superorb? And case fans, just read a few things about panaflos being even quiter than sunons(even though its the stupidorb that making all the noise). All suggestions are welcomed.

Panaflo L1A fans are really quiet, and so are the PC Power & Cooling "Silencer" 80mm fans. Here is another, never tried any of these: 80mm quiet Adda fan I have had both of the others and they are great in the noise-reduction aspect, even compared to a "quiet" Sunon.

What model of heatsink do you use? If it's your Duron system from your System Rig specs, you might have to back off your overclock a lot to use a "quiet" fan on your CPU heatsink. Have a look at TeamAwe for the Panaflos, there is an L1A version of the 60mm x 25mm fan that would work with many of the current SocketA heatsinks.

edit: you might also try running your fans at 7 volts. This is done by grounding them to the +5V line in the power-supply harness, which is the red one. Makes a big difference and you don't have to buy anything.

if you're not overclocking too far (as i assume you arenn't as you are using an S-orb) then i'd suggest an alpha pal6035 w/ a quiet ADDA fan from phamcomputer.com, they're the most silent heatsink fans i've seen and use one myself. they don't offer much performance gain as the CFMs are fairly limited, but w/ a 1.2ghz chip in a small dorm room, noise matters MUCH more then cooling to me.

swap out your PSU fan w/ a panaflo, and then any case fans you have w/ a panaflo from teamawe, they're simply the quietest ones i've ever used, especially when you run at half voltage.

that should make your system quiet enoug to suite any needs 🙂

You might want to look at the Taisol range of heatsinks if you're looking for a quiet one, they cool well with a relatively small (and hence quiet) fan. It's a good idea to run your case fans at 7v rather than 12v, as long as the path of airflow is sensible, you should only a small increase in operating temps.

A Taisol 733 HS with a panaflo fan works great for my 1.1 Ghz TBird. VERY QUIET, loudest component in my system is my IBM 75GXP 7200 Hard Drive.

I have a few of the Adda fans referred to by mechBgon, and can verify that they are indeed very quiet. They are comparable to the 80mm Panaflo L1A, both in noise level and CFM rating.
