Getting new tires - They lost my keys!

The time has come that I needed to replace the tires on my SRT-4... (No idea why??? hehehe) Anyway - I ordered the tires the first of August and since they are a "special order" tire - they only arrived yesterday at the shop.

I made my appointment for this morning to have the tires changed, and an alignment done on the car... Dropped it off at 8:30 this morning and left my keys there on the counter as the guy behind the counter looked at them and said "Okay, perfect."

Just got a phone call. "Hi Adam, this is *name* from *store*... You don't by chance have your keys do ya? I can't seem to see them anywhere around here..." I inform him that no, of course I don't have my keys... Tell him what they look like, where I left them and confirmed that they were not in my pocket just to make sure...

Got another phone call. "Hi, Tire store again. Still can't find your keys. Turned the counter upside down and everything and they aren?t anywhere." I inform him again what they look like, tell him it?s not just a single key. My entire keychain... a FOB, small keychain thing, and about 4 keys... one of which is for the SRT, and another for a Dodge Viper. Viper key you can't miss... so I told him to look for that one while looking at keys. Chances are there won?t be another one of those on the counter...

So now I get to wait. What do I do if they lost my fvcking keys??? I'm going to find a ride down there at lunch hour and see if I can?t find them myself if I have too... GRRRR...

Cliffs:

- Getting new tires on my car
- Dropped off car, locked it with the FOB and set keys on counter in front of man behind counter
- He said "Perfect, that's all we need."
- Calls to state he cannot find my keys. I tell him to look some more.
- Calls back to say he can?t find them anywhere. None of the keys are what I described
- What do I do now???

UPDATE: 3 Weeks later...

Still haven?t found them at the tire store, so today I informed them that they will need to be replaced. Went to the Chrysler Dealership and ordered the keys billed to the tire store.

SRT Key - $80 + $20 programming
SRT FOB - $140 + 20 programming
Jeep key - $80 + $20 programming
Viper key - $179.00 + $20 programming
Holly?s car - $5
My P.O.S Green car - $5

Plus they are going to re-code all of the keys and FOB?s to all of the cars at $20.00 each (6 in total) plus they have to book time in the shop to have the car sit in there to get reprogrammed? $40/hour for the shop time for each car, and each key and each FOB takes 20 minutes to program?

So considering it only takes 1 hour to re-program each car they are already up to $770.00 before taxes?

Amazing how much money ya got sitting in your pocket eh???

It's not mine... but they don't know that... I mainly told them about that to get their asses in gear to find those keys...

Sounds like they are going to end up shelling out a wad of cash for new keys.

Okay.

#1: You DO NOT leave all your keys with any shop. EVAR. Hell, when I'm doing the valet sh!t, I actually remove my god damn keys from the ring and hand it to them (great way to get free key rings :p)
#2: You're fvcked because you did something fvcking stupid. Maybe you can get them to pay for them, but that still doesn't excuse you from the fact that you never should have left them all there in the first fvcking place.

The FOB is the little unlocker thing that comes with new cars...

Lock, Unlock, Trunk, Panic... only about $200.00 to get a new one programmed for my car from the dealership...

I ususally only leave the key for the car being serviced and take the rest with me.

Hope they find em for you, its a major PITA to lose a key ring. I would almost rather lose a wallet.

Well, they need to do work on the car... I left them my keys so they could unlock my car, start it, put it into the shop and perform the work they are supposed to do...

I have trust in people to do VERY SIMPLE things... I didn't think they would lose the freaking keys man...

That's what I like about my Honda. I just grab the Valet Key before I need to take it anywhere, and don't have to worry about messing up my other keys.

How many miles are on that SRT-4? New tires and an alignment, already?

And that's... What. One key? It's a new car. Give them the one key. For me, I have to give them *TWO KEYS* because I drive an old sh!tbox. That's twice the work. You don't see me skipping it, though. And my entire keychain could be replaced for $5 at Home Depot.

And trust is something you should NEVER have in other people.

Keys do not get lost at places like that, they get jacked by employees. Good chance your car is now queue'd up to get stolen. Not to mention somsone from the shop is probably going to case your house for a Viper since you probably gave them your address when you dropped it off.

If you do not get the keys back you need to get the locks changed on both vehicles.

They will get the new keys for $100-$150, then a few days after you drive off, the lost keys will mysteriously reappear and your viper and SRT will mysteriously disappear....

EDIT: Beaten to the post

This story sounds very close to what happened to me two years ago. Tire store, dropped car off in morning, left keys, store claimed couldn't find keys, car left at tire store for the night - wife out of town on business with only other set of keys, next morning car gone, police called, court case - tire store not responsible for theft, car eventually found out of state stripped to the frame. Still fighting with insurance for over two years for loss of over $25,000. Ins co. won't pay up because I voluntarilly left the car and keys with another party.
Never leave your car for maint. always wait around for it.
Insurance sucks - it's nothing but legalized blackmail

Viper has a standard dodge key. Its not distinctive. At least not the earlier ones.

Get down there and take the distributor cap off the car and take it home with you, put a wheel clamp on it and kick someone in the nuts for 'losing' the keys.

This smells of BS.

The car wont get stolen. I already have a second key being driven to my location to at least get the car out of the area.

They have just called me back again to state that they have turned EVERYTHING over in that building and they can not find the keys... *BAD WORD*
