Getting new System, should I keep HD?

Well i finally decided to buy a new system, after one of my friends decided to buy my old rig.

I don't know if I should keep my HD or buy a new one. It's a WD 40GB 7200RPM HD. I'll mostly be using my new rig for gaming, so 40GB of space will be more than enough.

Here is what Im planning on getting, any suggestion?
CPU - AMD Athlon 64 3000+ Processor 512k - $236.00 cdn
Motherboard - ASUS K8V SE DELUXE AMD-64 Motherboard - $162.00 cdn
Memory - Apacer 1024MB (512*2) PC400/3200 400MHz DDR - $218.00 cdn
Current Vid Card - ASUS Radeon 9600 XT

I don't feel like wasting $ on something that won't make too much of a difference, so should i keep my current HD or should I upgrade to a SATA HD?

Thanx guys, any input is appriciated.

Dont bother upgarading to SATA, but you may find that you need more space. PATA is still the best value.

Other suggestions:
-Get at least the 3200, its not much more and u get the 1MB L2.
-Are u planning to keep that vid card. I suppose you could be i might bottleneck that system unpleasantly. If u need one midrange pricewise the 9800 pro is still good, you also might want to look at nvidia's new 6600 gt.
-Good motherboard

Yes, I plan on keeping it for a while. I am more into MMORPGs, instaed of FPS games, so I don't really need the best vid card. I currently play WOW with an average of 50 fps, but when I get into crowded areas, it sometimes goes down under 10, but thats just, because of my current system.

I have a friend who plays EQ with a 9600 Pro and loves it. WoW is more intensive graphically, but yeah, focus on the core system first in your case.

As for the HD, if it works, keep it. upgrade later when you really need the space. If you do not now, then don't bother. Realworld, I did not notice any difference between SATA and PATA. I will stay with PATA for now.

As for the processor, one question: Is all you do with this system is play MMORPG? If so, I would ask you to also consider getting a Sempron 3100. They cost about $100 less than a true A64, perform about the same as a A64 2800 and did I mention cost $100 less? They are Socket 754 so keep that in mind if you think about going for them. Anandtech just recently did a review on the Sempron, I would give it a gander before you buy.

Just out of curiousity, is your hd loud? I have a WD 40gig 7200rpm (WD400) and it's incredibly loud. In fact, it even drowns out my loud cpu fan (a lot more annoying since it's a high pitched whine too). I'm not sure if yours has the old-style bearing or fluid bearing but if you find the noise annoying, you should consider buying a new hard drive. All current HD's use the fluid style bearings which decrease the noise A LOT. Chances are you can find an 80gig WD/Maxtor/Seagate for around 50 bucks.

I just checked on that, and the Sempron 3100 costs the same as an A64 2800+. So I think ill stay with the A64 for now, but thanks for the suggestion.

Mine doesn't really make any loud noise, lol maybe it's because I got used to it.
