Hey all,

Just joined the board and looks to be a great place to hang out and get great advice from. So here is my question(s) and I hope you can help guide me to finally buying a new setup. Thanks.

I've been researching for the past week and decided to go with this setup. Please let me know if I'm crazy or just not "up-to-date"....I've been out the scene for a good bit.

- ABIT "NF7-S" nForce2 Chipset M... Socket A CPU -RETAIL
- AMD 45 Watt Mobile Athlon XP 2... FSB, 512K Cache - OEM
- ANTEC Life Style Series Black ...upply, Model "SONATA"

I really dont know what type of ram and cpu fan to get, so I hope you all can help me out with that. Just looking for an effective PC to play games but dont need the top of the line parts. Thanks.

If you're not planning on overclocking, I'd recommend getting as quiet of fans as possible.

Check out Silenx.com and Zalmantech.com. They have some nice parts for silencing the PC. The power supply is also another source of noise, so you could look at something more quiet if you choose.

Thermaltake also has a 90mm fan with a converter for fitting it on an 80mm heatsink. So maybe a good Swiftech hs with that fan. I think the item number for it on newegg.com is 11-999-136.

Otherwise, sounds like a good setup. Which video card are you going with? I would recommend a Radeon 9800 Pro or XT if you're not looking top of the line. I have a 9800 pro in my previous PC, and I have an X800 Pro and a Geforce 6800 Ultra. All are good cards, but for current games, the 9800 pro will work fine for you.

For RAM, I'd say go with Corsiar or Crucial. Use the memory advisor at Crucial.com to help you decide.

Hope this helps. :)
