Getting new golf clubs......

.....anyone have any comments or opinions on the Nike Slingshots? I am leaning towards those.

personally I dont like the shape

check out the callaway x18 or the ping g2 irons, these have rave reviews

Um... you need to tell us some things first...

How good are you? How long have you been playing? What do you currently hit? What's your shot type? What kind of shafts are you currently looking at?

I could only tell you what I think of the clubs in context with the type of user who will be swinging them 🙂

How good am I? How long have I been playing? Irrelevant questions if you ask me...... What's "good", If the guys on the PGA are good, then I suck, probably shouldn't even be playing.

The slingshots are a pretty nice club ... personally I prefer something with less of a profile, and the slingshots fit into that category. The Callaways and pings are a bit 'chunky' to my eye, though when I have hit them they felt pretty sweet. You can't go too wrong with any decent set of clubs these days unless you are looking for something specific. Get fitted professionally if you can, it makes a world of difference!

If you are looking to spend that kind of money on clubs then you should at least answer some of his questions as they all carry some level of importance. I'm sure you research almost all purchases when it comes to electronics so do the same for the game of golf if you truly want to improve your game.

If your looking for something similar to the slingshots but less $$, give the nike crp set a try. I like my set and was alomst half the price of the slingshots.

lol I made a thread about this same thing a few months ago.

the new nike NDS iron set is pretty cheap as well. i really like the design of the slingshots though. i was going to get some new clubs this summer, but i don't think thats happening because of funds.

Slingshots look gimmicky but that's just me. I prefer a clean looking blade anyways. If you can try em out a a driving range and they work and look pleasing to the eye, by all means buy em.

they DO look gimmicky, but they have gotten rave reviews.

there is a tent sale near my house this weekend in VA, so I think I'm going to check out that place and see if I can test out some of the slingshots there myself. i've wanted these since last summer but $$$ just isn't letting me get them right now.

Nike makes golf clubs now?

notice that swoosh thingie on Tiger Wood's cap?

Yeah, but that doesn't mean they make clubs. Tiger's clubs are bought from a Japanese company and then have the Nike swoosh stamped on them.

So... is there a "golf for dummies" that I can read up on? I want to play 🙁

Or is someone can do a cliffs notes on how you swing/play, that'd be great. 😀

I think you are paying for Tiger's new yacht if you buy Nike irons.

I will stick with Ping, Taylor Made, Cleveland, or Mizuno when I replace my old Pings.

I think Calloway is like Nike, you are paying for advertising.

And if you buy Cleveland you're paying for Vijays new yacht. If you buy Taylormade you're paying for Sergio's new yacht. If you buy Ping you're paying for Mark Calcavecchia's new yacht. If you buy Mizuno you're paying for the chairman of Mizuno's new yacht. They have a very chintzy tour payout program, that's why they went from being the #1 iron on tour to being the #8 iron on tour almost overnight. They stopped paying for PGA players to claim they use the stuff. It doesn't matter which brand you buy, you're paying for the advertising and for HUGE profits to the manufacturers. The clubs themselves are made in Chinese sweatshops by unskilled workers using dirt cheap parts.

Golf is an equipment sport. Better technology, materials and manufacturing all contribute to longer drives.

Golf is also a mind game. If you feel more confident and your game will be better if you have these clubs then go get them.

Its your money, spend it however you feel like.

Ok, you pwned me there.

Have a local club builder custom make you a set with your choice of heads, shafts, and grips.
