1. My two bottom wisdom teeth must come out because they are coming out at an angle and are pushing into my other teeth. The top two are straight, but the doctor says I should probably take them out too because they'll have nothing to hit against when I chew, but it's up to me.

2. Local anesthesia just makes my mouth numb, the IV causes me to be half awake, but have no feeling in most of my body and probably helps with the pain a bit more.

One big factor is that I don't have dental insurance and don't want to pay all the extra money, but I'm a pvssy and don't want the extra pain and anguish. It's about $250 for the extra teeth and $275 for the IV anesthesia.

If you have medical insurance you should check with them. If the lower teeth aren't fully erupted then they might cover some of the expenses. When I had mine out, medical covered about 40%, and dental about 50%, with me paying about $125 out of pocket.

I would get all 4 out, because they are hard to clean if not in line with your normal teeth.

Don't do that. Alcohol makes the blood thinner, and causes you to bleed more, more easily, faster (ie, it comes out faster) and longer.

Do 4, and get local sedation. Ask your dentist to give you a double dose.

Don't get local or an IV. Get put under. All the way Under. You don't want to even be conscious...

I had all 4 removed under local sedation (I think that's what it is called, I was completely awake, just couldn't feel half of my head).

The local sedation was weird and if you are squeamish, I would not recommend it. But definitely get all 4 out at the same time.

Tops are easy to remove. I had them done by my dentist with pliers. The bottoms were a nightmare. I had to get sedated. I would recommend paying up and getting sedation rather than local anesthesia.

I could go into detail about my impacted wisdom teeth but you'll probably get freaked out.

Well, I had one of my bottom wisdom teeth removed in Japan. They have universal healthcare there so I went to a local university dentist (not oral surgeon). He gave me some novacaine to kill the pain but once he started cutting away, I felt a searing pain. It wasn't enough so I was screaming for more. Then after removing the cap, he started to remove the roots but they were embedded so deeply he was wretching my head with the pliers trying to get them out. He told me they were tough so he took a WOODEN mallet, no joke, and started banging away with a chisel trying to get them out. Doosh, doosh. It got so bad it was like a bad movie. The dentist had his foot on the chair trying to use leverage to get these roots out. Finally after a while, he gets them but I felt like a boxer that got knocked out.

For my other tooth, I decided to go back home to NYC and have an oral surgeon knock me out and do it. Best decision ever. Plus, the high you get from the drugs is pretty amazing.

I had a severly impacted wisdom tooth removed two weeks ago with Nitrous Oxide and local anesthesia. Worked well enough for me and was a heck of a lot cheaper than IV sedation, which ins. did not cover.

I got some sort of sedation. Wsan't a gas but was a shot in the arm. The poked me and asked me to count to 10. I got as far as 1 and then just literally paused and said "whoa..." That's the lat thing I remember about it.

My daughter just had 4 taken out last week. She used full sedation through an IV. It wasn't too bad, and three days later she was back to eating solid food (sushi last night), but is still a little swollen.

I was in the military at the time, and they gave me an IV sedative that put me under... I was almost completely unaware of anything. A couple times, my heart monitor stopped and they asked me to go ahead and start breathing again, I remember that much. They had to break my bottom two into a bunch of little pieces to get them out. The top two came out whole, and I've still got them in a little box.

I had 2 taken out with local freezing and I never swelled up. Must be a lousy dentist or she really needed gum surgery.

I had only 1 side take out because it was pushing against my molar but they do the top one as well.

If both of the bottom ones are pushing your molars then they will take the top with it.

I checked and my med insurance won't cover any of it.

I'm having all four done in 3 weeks. The thought of it makes me woozy so I'm getting knocked out and will have plenty of Vicodins on hand afterwards. If you're worried about it I'd get knocked out, but since you're footing the entire bill that gets expensive. Mine is costing me about $300, but without insurance it would be like $1000 :Q

For those with experience, what and how do you eat immediately following the surgery? I hear Opiate based pain killers can make you nauseous on an empty stomach.
