Just drink about a 5th of whiskey, and then you won't need any other anesthetics at all.
If she's on a budget, she may as well save as much as she can. a $10 bottle of whiskey should work well enough.

uh...dude

getting it numb will be FINE. My wisdom teeth wasn't exposed when they did it. So they have to cut open my gum and drill/grind the teeth out. Then stitch back up the gum. Doesn't hurt much. Trust me. But later on it when you get home, it will start hurting, just take some pain reliever.

I hope that all of these guys are right about just getting the area numbed, but whenever I end up having mine pulled, I'm definitely going for the general.

I'm one of the lucky ones that never got wisdom teeth. I can't give you any advice, but I can wish ya good luck.

Good luck.

Depends on your teeth and how hard it would be to get 'em out. In some cases, I'd really REALLY recommend a general. In other cases, you'd be fine with a local.

Good luck.

Me neither. I hate the dentist anyways.

The IV sedation does not make the process any less painful. (local is still used). But it does allow you to usually forget the whole process and be sedated. It's really more of a convenience. If you are awake you will feel lots of needle pokes, pushing and pulling, pressure, cracking sounds and drilling if needed. It's not a fun experience, but it shouldn't be a painful one. The younger you are (17-20 age range) the easier the post-op will be for you.

After getting general for my wisdom teeth (3 hr surgery, they were badly impacted), I won't go back. I have to get a couple of fillings, and then a couple more replaced. If they'll put me under, I'm doing it. Nothing makes me anxious like getting work done at the dentist, and I'm really not a high strung type. Can't explain it.

I was sedated. I guess the doc just felt it would be better if I wasn't awake? He didn't really give me an option.

Got mine pulled a few years back. Just got the local anasthetic, interestingly enough for the same reason as you (my sister didn't get knocked out either). The needle hurt worse than the actual 'pulling'. But I was really uncomfortable because I knew what was going on. Try to think about something else.

Here's what they did for me.

Step 1: Stuck the big needle in me
Step 2: Sliced open the gums (all 4 teeth impacted)
Step 3: Drilled 3 holes in each tooth
Step 4: Inserted a 3 pronged tool into the holes (see step 3) and gave em a big ol twist to break the teeth into several pieces.
Step 5: Yanked out the bits and pieces of tooth
Step 6: Stitched up the holes and wedged a mess o' gauze in there.

I drove home afterwards and got stuck in traffic for about 2 hours. Half-way home I happened to glance down and saw I was drooling blood and sitting with a big puddle of it in my lap. Not fun. I got it done on a Friday and felt pretty much fine before the weekend was through.

I have a hard time believing it took 3 hours to remove you're teeth. If they were that badly impacted, the doc most likely would have never recommended removing them unless you had some pathology associated with it. And I hope you realize if you don't see your dentist for those fillings you will either be seeing an endodontist for a root canal or oral surgeon in the future when they become broken and/or get infected and blow up your face so big you can't open and need them to slice open your face to drain out the pus.

I was sedated intravenously but woke up at one point. I'm sure it was really scary, but I was so high I didn't care about all the people leaning over me and ripping my gums open. I probably would not enjoy being conscious for the duration of the operation.

That being said, I'm sure local will be fine. Plus, the painkillers they give you are almost worth having the operation.

I recommend having it done by a proper dentist.

I got gas and octacaine (octakane ?) and then he gave me percocet to take home.
LOVELY stuff.

Get a doc, if for no other reason then to get good drugs.

did it local
yes its scary
but oddly painless unlike drilling. i didn't even know he finished taking them out.
never mind the buzz saw for the ones under bone.
still didn't feel it go figure.
iv is probably a waste of money for such a procedure.
