Getting my wisdom teeth out and I'm scared - reassuring stories?

I know a bunch of you have horror stories. But I'm anxious enough already - not about the pain, but about hearing my teeth crack, oddly enough. Anyone have good stories, or helpful hints?
 
I was totally under.

If it worries you that much, ask the doc if they can use general anesthesia. Share your fears/concerns with the doctor and ask him/her for solutions.
 
My advice is, keep gauze packed in the socket and drink water regularly to keep them moist so you do not get dry socket. If you're having all four removed, you will be in some pain, so keep up on your pain meds to minimize that. If you're scared of hearing the teeth being broken and pulled out, I'm assuming you're getting local anesthesia rather than being put under, otherwise, if you get put on the gas, you won't really remember any of it. I got localized because I don't like being out of it and it wasn't that bad.
 
Don't have them put you under.

Request Valium (make sure that someone drives you there, stays there and drives you back home ... you will NOT be coherant enough to take a bus/taxi trust me).
Request local anesthesia and laughing gas.

Do you know if any of the wisdom teeth are impacted or look difficult to extract?

The day of the procedure, don't eat anything in the morning unless it's something really light (like toast).
 
I went on lunch break; had 2 ripped out.
I drove back, and did not miss any work.
I never needed the pain killers they gave me for afterwards.
 
I had all four removed a while ago, but they knocked me out completely. Afterwards it wasn't all that bad, but my cheeks were a bit swollen from the surgery... you'll be fine!! 🙂

I got all four of mine taken out about two years ago. Took about 15 minutes and I was completely awake through it. Didn't hurt at all, I don't even thing I took one of my vicodens. I was back to eating all my normal stuff the next day for the most part. I'm a freakishly fast healer but even so it wasn't bad at all. Don't sweat it.

My wisdom tooth extraction didn't hurt a bit. The dentist counted backwards from 10 and I was snoozing by 6. Next thing I know I was walking out of the office a little groggy. Didn't even need the pain killers but I took one for the heck of it.

You will be fine HC, nothing to it.

Bottom right. I don't figure on a panic attack, and I really don't want to take Valium unless that's a risk. I'm just anxious and figured maybe some of you guys ( !=Eli) would be nice enough to reassure me. 🙂

how are they doing it, with lazer or old style?
 
If they give you percocet, stay far away from it! It made my stomach sick as hell and made me have really, really bad nightmares the first night I took it. I dreamt that Michael Jackson and LaToya Jackson were getting it on and woke up in cold sweats screaming.









Just kidding about that dream.....I think.......😀

well i didn't hear any noise, didn't have any swelling and had a burger the next day.

i also didn't need to use any pain pills.

hopefully this helps 🙂 it's the truth

Really depends on the dentist. The first time I had mine pulled, I heard all kind of horror stories as well. But when my dentist did it for me, I didn't even feel a thing. I was waiting for the pain of him pulling the teeth out, dreading the moment it will hurt. But to my surprise, he said "Ok, we are all done." I thought he was done preparing, but no he was done pulling my tooth out and showed it to me.
 
I had all four taken out, two where minor impacted, and I felt fine by dinner time, which was about 10 hours later. I didn't have any pain and only took local pain killer while they were being taken out. I only swelled up for about 2 hours afterwards, I guess I was lucky.
