I just started my cut about a week ago, and it turns out that I have to get my tonsils removed very soon. How long of a process is this? Will I be able to go to the gym? Seeing as I won't be able to eat solid food, should I drink loads of protein shakes?

I have gained 15lbs of muscle, and don't want to lose the gains i have made, but also think this will be a good start for a cut. I just don't want to do things wrong.

The problem with a tonsilectomy is that you can sometimes experience pain while swallowing, which is a sure-fire way to lose your appetite. Personally, I wouldn't recommend eating many of your favorite foods while you do this.

Most people resume eating a normal diet in 3-5 days. They recommend cold, soft, and moist foods to avoid reopening the wounds. Cold, chilled foods for the first 24 hours - the examples given are fruit slurries, non-citrus juices. You advance to warmer fluids and soft, usually mechanically modified foods (pastas, rice, minced meats, etc.) on the second day. The key is to carefully consume hot foods, and don't jump into things too quickly. As far as surgery goes it's not like head & neck cancer surgery, but surgery is still surgery. Be sure to remain hydrated.

Basically, you start with all liquids, then move to soft foods, then normal foods. Seems that you could throw back a few fruit smoothies cooled with blended ice. There are plenty of creative combinations to come up with.

I should also add it is very hard to stay full and satiated on a full liquid diet because there is no chewing, and it's very unsatisfying. It can get old very quickly. Take your time, don't guzzle down the shakes, and stay creative.
