I just started my new job and the school I'm at has a tech shop downstairs which has a full mechanic shop. They do everything down there. Right now I'm getting my tires taken off, rims cleaned, reseasled, rotatated, and balanced, for free 🙂

They do a lot of other stuff there too, engine rebuilds, performance modifications, etc. It feels good having saved myself $ 100 bucks which is what one shop quoted me.

It's funny seeing my car on a lift with 25 15-16 year olds dismantling the wheels all that at the same time 🙂

I'm gonna get free paint and body work out of my brother-in-law. I just have to buy the materials.

Body work huh? I wonder what I could get them to do for my car body work wise? Clean up the underbody? Rust spots?

Give me/them some constructive jobs haha, it's beneficial for them and me 🙂

Buy an old classic in need of a frame-off restoration and have it done for free?

What's the quality of the work that happens there? Is there enough supervision that the 15 year olds can't screw it up?

There's a teacher there and he's with them all the time directing them etc. I'm pretty sure for simple jobs they are alright. We've got like 80 staff in this school and everyone does oil changes, rotations, winter/summer switches here and no complaints.

Not sure about the more complicated stuff though, I'm new here myself but I will find out 🙂

I don't think they would do a restoration for me lol, they already have a few of those in the process, as for who the car owners are I am not sure, but I think it's the schools. There's an old Camero, a new generation red Corvette, and a few old Harley's.

I was thinking of things more along the lines of my car. Probably going to get my coolant flushes and fluids changed...

yea its free but this also means they are free from liability when something goes sour.

yea i would trust them to do wheel, not if i had nice wheels because newbies will mark up the wheels easily. oil changes and small things. double check afterwards.

small electical stuff is good, like a door lock, window motor not working. well alignments if they can do that. alignments on stock cars really cant be messed up. just line everything up in green and go.

I would not trust them to do anything major...and would only let them touch a beater.

Just went at lunch time to check out the progress, all the wheels are off and the rims look nice and cleaned off. I think the next class is going to reseal them/balance. Come on these guys (and gals) are soldiers, they're enthusiastic too!

Just got home, they finished my car and everything is cool, except!!! They got mixed up with the tires and switched up the two on the right side (front went back and back went front). I was wondering why it felt a bit odd on the highway, but that's cause the tread is unbalanced!

Coolant, trans, and brake flush. AC recharge.

Yea I'm going to do all that except the tranny, I did that a few months ago. Thx for the tip 🙂
