Getting memtest/WMD errors

I'm getting occasional BSODs in XP, and have found that this system will fail memory tests (Memtest86+ test 7). System is an Asus P5B-Deluxe with latest BIOS (1101), E6600, and 2x 1GB Geil Low-latency PC-6400.

The RAM has been tested at stock and slightly relaxed timings at the rated speed of 800 MHz. VDimm has been correctly set to the specified 2.1V, and has also been tested at 2.2V.

The errors *only* occur when both sticks are used. I've tried swapping the sticks round, and using different combinations of slots. When operating in dual channel mode, memtest will always fail. When used individually, memtest will always pass.

If it helps, the errors seem to be clustered around a specific 'region of memory' about 590-630 MB (according to memtest86+) and the have same bit error pattern (00000080, or 00000040 or 000000c0).

Is this likely to be a RAM problem, mobo problem, or a compatability problem?

How should I go about diagnosing this? I do have a second PC of the exact same specs but its on the other side of the country at the moment, and I've never thought to run a prolonged memtest on it before.
