Getting IP of 0.0.0.0 what does that mean?

when i try to obtain an ip from my isp, i keep getting 0.0.0.0
i have 2 nics in the comp. the other one is able to obtain an ip fine...the 2nd one gets 0.0.0.0
this even happens when i connect the problem nic straight to the cable modem

any ideas?

maybe they are limiting IP's based on the mac of the nic? and they dont like your second nic?

Most cable ISP's only give out IP addresses if your NIC's MAC address is on file. They probably have your 1st NIC on file and not your 2nd.

Edit: Oops, too slow I guess. :)

actually, it turns out that if you power cycle the modem, then obtain the ip..it works :\
wierd.

Actually not very weird. Many cable modems store the mac of your NIC in memory.
