their freaking expensive. Expect to put thousands of dollars into it. Nitro is better than electric. Nothing like the smell of nitro in the morning 😀

what about some good kits? (offroad)

Tmaxx is pretty much RTR. There are not many cool offroad nitros, though. I have seen people conver the tamiya electric offroad into nitro.
I had an HPI Super Nitro Rally which was a blast when it wasnt broken. However, i was very rough on it and trashed alot of parts.

What scale are you talking about here.

I myself hang in the 1/24th (Mini-Z, or Mini-Z Overland for offroad) and smaller scale. Fun, don't need so much room and it won't break the bank (well the part about the bank is debatable).

i'm talking about a midsize rc, using electricity (not going for nitro 🙁 don't want to get too messey), and something i can really build with my hands (not those that come all preassembled in a box, i want to know how the rc works also so i can mod and fix it in the future)

HPI Racing

They make, arguably, the best RC kits on the market. I completely agree. HPI's cars and trucks are phenomenal and their kits are outstanding. If you want a good, all around electric off road truck, they've got it. I prefer road racing myself but I do have a Super Nitro Rally, as well. PM me if you really some info because I'm way into RC whenever I've got the time and money for it.

nope. depends on what part of the market. beginning/bashing kits are done best by HPI. when it comes to high performance/competiton, hpi cant cut it (with exception to the new r40, this is is very strong attempt). otherwise, grab an NTC3, great beginning car with tons of potential for competition later.

if you are talking about offroad, wayyyy too many good options. if you're a beginner, just grab a tmaxx or an hpi savage and such, very big seletion of parts and parts are cheap. i prefer buggies to monster trucks, all depends on you.

I have a t-maxx and I wasted about 1500 bucks on parts. I have it on the garage dismantled. Used it like 10times lol, But i'm going to fix it tomorrow

can someone suggest a good unbuilt nitro offroad kit? I was looking at the Savage SS, but there must be some more.

I was big into offroad RC when I was young. My dad picked up the kits in Japan and we built them together. One was the Slingshot, the other the Dragon. The chassies were identical (didn't want an unfair advantage), but the bodies were totally different. They were both electric, 4wd, and could take one heck of a beating! 🙂 Something with the Slingshot's front suspension finally broke (can't remember what), and a replacement part required ordering a whole new sheet of parts. Too expensive. The Dragon's motor finally broke - it would spin but not engage. I never took it apart to find the trouble. Those two cars still sit at my parent's house to this day. 🙂 Good memories though!

Edit: Forgot to mention that both kits were Tamiya.
