I have tinnitus (ringing in my ears) and bad all around hearing. I was thinking about going and getting it checked out by a hearing doctor, but can they even do anything about it?

I mean, there aren't any "stop the ringing" pills are there?
 
It depends on the cause of the problem.
When my hearing went messed up, it was due to build up of wax, and once that was cleared, my hearing was fine.
If they find a problem they can (hopefully) put it right, it just depends on the cause of your difficulties.

remember star trek II the wraith of khan where some guys got bugs shoved in their ears? becareful, or that's what could happen to you. at first it will hurt but then you won't care about anything.

That's just nasty. Are you that dirty to let ear wax impact your hearing?

If you clean it all the time it shouldn't be a problem. Besides, after a shower it should all soften up anyway.

No, there's no "cure" for tinnitus. Learn to live with it. I used to think I had it, then I got tested and checked out fine. Turns out I'm just hypersensitive and can hear things at a stupidly high pitch (22KHz?) so when it's quiet in a room, that cuts through. Thus why I've always got to have music playing at a computer or something - the CRT whine drives me berserk.

i am getting close to 40 and haven't had a full physical since i got out of the Navy in '96

i guess i'll put it off until i turn 40 and then get the full meal deal, but you know what that will include :Q
