getting haupauge wintv cards to work in win2k

Does anyone have an idea how to get a hauppauge wintv pci board to run prperly under win2k
Meaning: getting it to work in overlay so i can enjoy full screen as it was possible in win98??
Also the remote wont work right either, any clue on that??

hey boone i had the same prob, i couldnt even boot with the card in, i tried everything, several installs of 2k, etc... i love 2k but because of compatibility stuff like this went back to 9x. im interested to know if anyone has a fix for this.

Oh hell, don't even get me started on this one... I have a Hauupauge PCI card too, and the only way to get it to work properly was to arse around with the drivers until it recognised the card properly. Then, in the Display->Configure (or Preferences, can't remember), there's an option for forcing it to switch resolutions when going fullscreen. Also, the Hauppauge WinTV=>Primary Start Menu entry will let you switch between rendering methods, fiddle around a bit- works differently for everyone because of the diversity of graphics cards.
Failing that, give them a ring, they're actually quite useful and helpful (weird, that), and should be able to help you out.

I had a similar problem with my WinTV Theater. To solve it, I simply downloaded Hauppage's uninstall program, took the previous installation off, and reinstalled the latest drivers. It still looks bad in 32 bit color, but at 16 bit in fullscreen it works perfectly. BTW, i'm running it on SP1 with an Elsa Gladiac Geforce2 GTS card

woah, I've used my WinTV PCI card in 98, 98SE, ME, Win2k Pro (standard, and SP2), and WinXP without any of these problems. I even used the BETA Win2k drivers from the CD that came with the card in Win2k until I had the time to download the later ones. One problem I had was using those old Win2k beta drivers in XP, I had to download the newest drives for it to work correctly. I'm watching TV as "we speak" right now...

If you want to view in full screen under win2k, check the "allow resolution change" under the TV mode tab in preferences.

I have been using my WinTV card for awhile now, and I have had no problems with any OS.

to get the remote to work , you have to make sure you install the remote software off the cd or the net....(of course, they don't tell you this)

if it's running, it should show up as a little remote in your sistray

I've had no problems installing WinTV under 2000, or anyother Win version - I think the trick is to install the drivers first then reboot (it doesn't tell you that, but that's what needs to be done!), then install the WinTV software, radio tuner, and IR control.

they have a de-interlacer that'll work with these cards and produces very good pictures, much better then you can get from the Haupauge software. Plus you can't best the price... it's FREE!

The TV card is working in general, with resolution change,
But my point was that i wanted the fullscreen to work at my normal windows resolution (1280x1024, as it did in w9x)to ease the interleave problem
In win2k the card is only running in primary mode although u are supposed to be able to change it with this primary program, but it doesnt really change it it stays in primary mode
I did also talk to Hauppauge but they couldnt help me they just said win2k wouldnt support overlay... ( their driver anyway)
However there is a WDM beta driver, which l;ets u have the fullscreen mode, unfortunately this driver is so unstable, to the point that is gets win2k kinda crashed, besides that the card wont work in stereo and the sound doesnt go off after turning the tv off.
Anyway thanks alot i guess Hauppauge should do something but when u look at their driver/program dates it is clear that this wont happen
well then a phillips next time... 🙂

Damn, good info. I can't get my remote to work--got everything else (TV and radio) to work without problems though. I also installed in the same manner... driver (restart), WinTV, radio, IR but it didn't work.

I guess I'll give it another try when I reformat my HD.

(does anyone know how to back up the saved games for UT??)

double check that your plugging the IR receiver into the correct jack on the card..i ALWAYS accidentally plug it into the line on the card

also, have you double checked the batteries?

HAHAHA....OH S#!% I just checked--sure enough. I plugged my IR receiver into the wrong jack. BUT--I got desperate one day (2 weeks ago or so) and I tried to use that Win2K compatability utility--it caused a C++ runtime crash (which is strange because I never installed C++ or Visual Studio on my new HDs)--I'm guessing the compatability utility was written in C++? Anyway, even after doing a full delete of all the Hauppauge and clean install of the drivers and software, I get the same error upon trying to open the IR32.exe program.

I guess this basically means I HAVE to do a fresh install of Win2K. Oh well--I haven't done it in about 1 month--time to do it (I need Ghost).

(THE FUNNY THING is that I E-mailed Hauppauge about the &quot;issue&quot; of Win2K not being able to use the IR32.exe program--they responded by saying that &quot;we are aware of the issue--have been trying to release a new version of IR32.exe for Win2K compatability but have not figured it out yet.&quot; Maybe they are also plugging in their IR receiver into the wrong jack????)

They always tell you that they are aware of the issues - it's just to calm u down and make u think they care. The truth is they dont give a damn
Escalade the program is awesome, would be cool to have the remote work with it but hey, ya cant have it all. Acually is is amazing how some freewaresomehundretK program can do it all and more (deinterlacing) and ppl that are payed for what they are doing are just plain dilettants
