Anyone know what port this is for? Im geting hammered at a rate of 1 check a second here on my firewall, and its causing my cable modem to crash every few minutes. I tried googling for this port, but have been unable to turn anything up yet. Any help is welcome.

According to Steve Gibson's ShieldsUp website port 3961 is an unused port. Can you have your router drop all ping attempts?

Click here if you want to run a port test.

Hope this helps! 🙂

I can't imagine why that causes your cable modem to crash, and I'd be pretty amazed if it did. The cable modem handles a lot more packets than one a second, and mine has run for years doing that. 😀

Yeah, Im not sure why it would crash it either, but the modem only started crashing after I started logging these attempts.

Im trying the port checker.

The ONLY thing you can do is ask your ISP to block it. Obviously, any software-based solution such as a firewall would require the packet to go through the (defective?!?) modem. Furthermore, since it's UDP and does not require an acknowledgement, a firewall for this issue would be pointless anyway.

I tried calling road runner and they had no idea what to do, what it was, or how to tie their shoelaces. Im gonna try to get into the modem properties to see whats up. Router has been trustworthy for a very long time. It doesnt appear to be anything on the computer. I can turn it off, and the router and modem are still going nuts.

BTW, port 3961 is used in P2P messenger for private cam chatting???? I didnt even know such program existed.
