I have two kids and I am thinking about having it done.
Any good or bad stories?

I had if done about 8 years ago. The procedure was a bit unpleasant but I was up and about the next day and was back in the sack in about a week.

I keep hearing conflicting stories on "pain." Some say it's nothing but a little soreness, some say it's like having your boys in a vice, then having it hit with a sledgehammer.

I hope the first group are right.

Me too. :(

By the way, does anyone know if I could use a medical savings account for this?

A co-worker told me that her husband's was covered by our employer's insurance. They only had to pay a $50 (or maybe $100) deductible, and paid that with her flex-care account.

Did you have sperm count checks done for a while after the procedure?

I had it done, best $52 I ever spent!!!!

If you have flex spending, then the part not covered by ins would be paid by that.

my experience, side 1 was painless, side 2 was uncomfortable when the doctor pulled the tube to snip it. I had mine done on a friday and was in the pool on Saturday, and back to work on Monday. My boys turned a lil black from the bleeding in the sack, but it went away in about 2 weeks.

The worst part was when I got the stitches out, the nurse taking them out was an 11 on a 10 scale

My opinion: Do it, you will not regret it

Yeah, I did. Just after the procedure they told me to come back in six weeks for testing. When I went back they said I still had swimmers, so they told me to come back in six more weeks. When I went back the second time they told me that I was all clear. After I found out that we were having another child, I went back and found that I still had swimmers after all. Their excuse was that I had healed... which could've been very true because about three or four weeks before she got pregnant I had felt some discomfort for a few days on the left side.

haha same here, except it was the nurse that prepped me and assisted the doctor. thankfully the valium was in full force.

i had it done after my second child. 2, one of each sex, was all we ever wanted. didnt hurt much at all really. just some soreness for a few days afterward, and that really wasnt even much at all. wear a jock strap to help support them, and it will help with the "pain".

its nice not having to worry about a pill or other contraceptives.

I was up and on my feet the same day. No pain at all (or maybe some of us in the thread are just a lot tougher than the wimps who can't handle it :p ) Had it done when I was 24, after my 2nd son was born.

Nurse asked doctor, "15ml of *** (whatever i was)" Doctor responded: "no, he's young and looks really nervous, make it 30." I don't remember the exact numbers, but I do recall that the doctor doubled whatever the nurse had said. And, if I knew what that medication was that they gave me via an IV, I'd be a drug addict.

I have had it done twice!

Yes, 2 times. The first time, the doc missed one and I had to have it done again about 2 months later! :(

Don't ever walk out after it's done and say "Thank God I don't have to do that again!"

The needle hurt more than the prodecure (both times). Burned when it was being injected!

Man... after reading the last thread about this here, I'm of the opinion that you don't want to hear any stories about it before you go in.
I'm still thinking about having it done. I think maybe Fritzo's story on it made it sound the worst.

ditto here... I can't stand needles. The worst part was having an IV inserted into my arm. However, I also donate blood - the needle for donating blood is bigger. So, it's really not that big of a deal.

Sore for one day. No real pain. Done in the Dr's office.

Was given the choice of having a nurse or myself help with the procedure.

IV in arm? I'm talking about the six inch needle stuck each side of your sack! No general anasthesia here...only a local...in each side!!!! :(
