Although, one of our areas already has FIOS competition and we actually do pretty well.

Competition and a wide selection of HD channels are the only real good things that UVerse brings to the table at the current time. The problem is that it costs a TON of money to implement a new infrastructure. If Verizon doesn't have you listed in their expansion areas, chances are you're not going to get FIOS because its just too damn expensive for them to worry about.

So basically, Cable is going to have to step up and offer more with their services to compete with the lower introductory prices of UVerse and prove that its a better choice for people who want HD.

Where do I find this list? I looked on the site and didn't see anything. I have entered my address before to see if it was available but it currently is not. I have never seen an expansion list though.

I actually don't think its a published list, you may want to call them up and see if you're in an area that will be developed in the future.

I just found this page: http://www.consumerfiber.com/fios-availability
Looks to be somewhat extensive in at least where FIOS is offered

Verizon is pushing FIOS hard in our area. We get a letter about twice a month reminding us that FIOS is available. About once a month they will call to get us to sign up. Two weeks ago they sent people door-to-door in 20 degree weather. Looked like college students on break, I let them come in just to warm up a little.

wish I was getting letters that they were available!!!!

Pretty good. Thanks for this. It looks like FIOS is only hitting Central Florida on the west coast right now. Hopefully they will head south east soon.

i clicked modeps, which then refered me to Verizon's offical site. I think the one that modeps posted is just a picture linking to the offical site.

My Dad recently ordered the 20/5 package. Internet/Phone/and 145 TV channels all for $100 the first few months (Not sure how long exactly). But on top of that we also get free installation, a choice between a 19'' HD TV or a $200 BB gift card, and a $50 Target gift card.

Unfortunately it gets installed after I go back to school :(

Good luck! :)

Uverse, by AT&T is fiber to the street, copper to the home. not terrible actually, shouldn't be any difference in speed between FTTP (fiber to the premises) and fiber to the street. not sure why the uverse implementation is horrible.

No FiOS here but AT&T Uverse just launched yesterday in my area. I work for AT&T and through all the demos and trainings I've been to it seems like an awesome service so I'm probably gonna order tomorrow so I can finally get rid of Comcast.

in 07003 this is what we get for the next 2 years:

$94.99/mo = 20/5 + unlimited phone + their basic digital/HD package

we added 2 HD-DVRs for $12/mo

EDIT: oops, we also got a $100 rebate

damn, kind of surprised theres nothing in Georgia. Would think they would be trying to hit up ATL with some fiber. Would even give Charter something to worry about. I hate Charter, they have a fiber infrastructure in the city I work at yet it's only for special commerical uses and costs a ridiculous amount of money. I believe we have something like 10mb or so and the monthly bill is nearly 20k a month or more! Basically they know they can screw us out of a lot of money and are taking full advantage of it. Hell we probably keep that city's station in business.

Incorrect in terms of no difference between fiber to the house and fiber to the street. There's a large difference in the cabling and the bandwidth possible by each. Read back a few posts, I've discussed why Uverse isn't a good choice. They are throwing low prices at people to get high adoption and pulling in people who don't know any better.

I'll second the AZ thing. I had fiber in Utah and the move to AZ was a definite downgrade in terms of internet options. I had 10 up/down with VOIP for $70. I now have 12 down and .5 up. I don't mind the down, but man I would like an additional 2-3Mbps on the up side for the same price.

seriously, look into it hard before you make your decision. Blackdoggeek stated that he got 2 HDDVRs with Fios... that would be completely worthless on Uverse

No, its not good. Its fake Fiber. They run fiber to your street, then from there use telephone wire to get the signal to your house. Telephone wire does not have the capacity to carry the data required to be future proof.

While it may not be future proof, fiber is not either. Verizon is already upgrading bpon to gpon ;)
However, the banwidth situation is not nearly as bad as you make it out to be on u-verse. Alcatel(they make the vdsl for ATT) recently announced a DSM add on which will boost vdsl speeds by 30%. U-verse is still not vdsl2 as the CPE vdsl2 is not ready. So there is another boost of speed. And then there is pair bonding, which will basically double what dsm+vdsl2 will deliver. Once all these pieced come together, I dont think most people are going to be wanting for bandwidth for a while.

And from there simple upgrades to FTTC/FTTP exist.

Currently, if you get a DVR and want to watch one HD program while recording another, or if you've got two HDTVs and your significant other wants to watch an HD program at the same time you do, you can't. The medium only allows for ONE HD STREAM at a time to your house.
The key word is currently. They have a long term plan of 4+ HD streams and the 2nd stream is supposed to get turned on soon. Right now the IPTV bandwidth cap is 20 meg. With their current 8meg HD streams 2HD+2SD is possible in that budget. SO it should not be much longer.

But for 70% of the population, HD is not even an issue.

They are also claiming TRUE 1080p, which is a flat out lie. They don't have the capacity or bandwidth to push 1080p to your home (and I don't believe that any network records in 1080p anyway). It's a normal 1080i signal, just like everyone else, upconverted at the cable box.

(edited for clarity and spelling)

I have not heard any 1080p advertisements, but it is possible. My stb does not give me an option for 1080/720p/480p/480i. But it have might have an upconverte 1080p over hdmi.

They also introduced a max tier 10/1.5, so 6 is no longer the max.

You can only get one dvr, because they are going to mave a whole home dvr. So only 1 dvr will be needed. Still a vaporware feature as of now however.

I have the service for the past 18 months, so far much better than what TW was offering, even with the 1HD stream limit.
