Getting FIOS installed

The guy has been out here since 8:30 in the morning. Someon ran the drop from the pole to my house yesterday but it was not lit so he had to spend an hour fixing that. Then he installed the ONT outside (took out the telephone box) and just finished putting in the battery backup and the transformer to plug into an outlet. All I did was installed the oulet in the garage and hung some plywoo on the wall so he can attach all of the equipment.

Hes out for lunch now and he said all he has to do is tie up some loose ends, call to activate the ONT, and run the cat 5e cable. The guy is doing a great job so far, paying attention to all the little details and patiently explaining any questions that I ask him. Cant wait till its done. Ill post some pictures once the whole setup is complete.

Yes, the work they put into just setting up FIOS is amazing. I don't know what you had to pay, but usually it's free. I had to PAY for a freakin' DSL modem to be MAILED to my place. But after that it is all worth it when I'm surfing the net and downloading at an amazing 1.2Mbps down and 256Kbps up. Oh sorry, I forgot it isn't the year 1999 anymore. Stupid DSL! :|

[rainonparade] I've had it for a year now. Looking into FIOS TV, need to do more research on this[/rainonparade]

Wish they would offer that here so I would have an alternative to Cox cable (incredibly slow downloads, 50% packet loss, frequent dropped connections and their techs say that is normal.)

Sounds really good. Hope you enjoy the nice speeds. I live in VA, currently subscribed to Comcast. They are charging $60/mo. I'd really like to see it go down to around what you're paying, but I don't think that's going to happen.

When I was living in a Cox-serviced area (last year) I opted for Qwest DSL. Same money, half the speed, BUT it always worked, had no packet loss and no probs. All my friends that had Cox had probs w/their service seemingly one a week.

Back on topic: WTH is FIOS? I"ve never heard of it! 😱 Those speeds are amazing...let alone at $45/mo! :Q What's up with that? Why so cheap? What's the catch?

Lucky you, but those speeds are un-neccesary for just browsing the 'net, and listenin' to radio. OTOH, is it an unlimited connection, or volume limited?

Yeah, I had DSL through BellSouth for a while, they were pretty good because they let you have ports 80 and 25 😀 But now I don't have a landline here so I'd have to pay $15 a month for that then $50 a month for 3/384 as opposed to $50 a month for 9/1. Still a tossup heh.

Wow. Fiber optic in the house! Getting those speeds on a cable connection (if you can even find an ISP that good) would cost you $$$.

I'm jealous!
