Hey everybody. I'm sure many here went through this thread at some point. Well we of course we got it, and now a year later we are starting the long list of upgrades. We're working on college budget so this will certainly be slow progress. But the first step we're doing is a new exhaust system.

A flowmaster 50 series muffler from a 2.5" in line.

2.75" out from the muffler to a 3.5" 18" stainless steel angle cut unrolled echo tip out the side.

About $230 for the upgrade including labor. Not bad at all. We only have a digital camera but we'll attempt to take before and after pics and video.

Also on the upgrade list eventually will be 20-22" rims, a body kit, stereo upgrade to two 12" subs along with 4 speakers (right now looking at RF Power Stage 2's for the subs along with Powers for the speakers)

Last upgrade on the list is a custom dynamic turbo and cold intake kit.

We're looking forward to watching the transformation, and will hopefully be able to show it here! :D

I'd say yes to the flowmaster, stereo upgrade, but not the 20-22" rims, it's an suv man! (granted, you're vehicle, you do as you wish)

might i suggest avoiding the so-called "upgrades" altogether? i have yet to see a customized SUV that i didn't hate. especially with the larger wheels.

Oh boy... I was hoping everyone would ignore this thread and it would just fade off the 1st page. This could get ugly.

Makes no sense. It's not going to be fast no matter what riceboy mods you do. In fact, vehicles like this make no sense in general. They're too big to be fuel efficient, perform well, or offroad. And they're not functional like pickups. The only benefit is being able to tow

Alright dude. You know perfectly well that cars, like clothes, are methods of communication to other people. I know you know this because you're doing cosmetic mods to a car that you bought for cosmetic reasons. There's not technically anything wrong with communicating this way. We all do it to some extent.

What I want to caution you about is the consequences of the message you choose to communicate. In your case, this is the automotive equivalent of living in the projects, selling meth to support your cheap hooker habit, and using your food stamps and child support payments to buy a grill for your teeth (or, oddly enough, rims for your car). Despite what MTV says, in the real world it is not cool to look lower-class. It's not cool to look like you are stuck in an angry adolescence. By "not cool," I mean the majority of the people you encounter on the street and probably ALL police officers are going to assume you are either all of the above or idolize people who are. Either way, they will look down on you. They won't let you in when you turn on your blinker. When you pull in to interview for a professional job, they'll tell you "Um... we'll call YOU back, ok?" That cop driving by is only going to give you a 5 MPH buffer instead of 10. Non-psycho females will rebuff your romantic advances.

I know this sounds over the top, but the fact is that people who make the conscious choice (and even spend lots of money) to purposely identify themselves with trashy people are often assumed to be trash. It might even be true that you ARE trash, and honestly, that's ok. We were all kids once, and most people see kids as trash. We caused trouble, listened to music that our parents hated, drove too fast, whatever. We hold varying amounts of that with us as we age. But as you mature, you realize that there are parts of yourself that don't need to be shouted out to the world. I listen to a lot of heavy metal, but I took down the bajillion bumper stickers on my car years ago when I realized that it was more important to me to be taken seriously by the adult world than it was to make 1 in 10,000 drivers think "Hey, that guy likes the same band as me." And furthermore, once you free yourself of the need to wear your identity on your car and clothes, you realize it is actually a lot EASIER to be yourself, because you don't have people discriminating against you all the time.

To spend lots of money to purposely be discriminated against is just stupid. Hip hop culture has made a martyr of itself, but the rest of the world knows it is nothing but cheap vanity. Wearing your identity on your clothes or car is a clear sign to those around you that you never progressed out of adolescence.

 What a colossal waste of time and money. So, basically your goal is to make more noise? Why not just hard wire the horn to blast constantly?

I can see upgrading the stereo but a body kit? On and SUV? That's like putting makeup on a pig.

22" rims? So, your goal there is to increase stopping distances?

Sorry to burst your bubble but this is a bad idea. SUVs are dinosaurs, their days are numbered. You're throwing your money away.

Maybe he wants to reduce the HP? Did you consider that? If you feel like your stock exhaust flows too well, you can put on one of the worst flowing mufflers in the world, Flowmaster, to reduce the power.

Wow...what a great post. VERY true, and well written, and you even managed to avoid the temptation to be insulting, which is hard to do on the internet.

Listen to this man.
