Getting Comcast Cable honestly shouldn't be this hard.

So I signed up for comcast digital cable an so far it's been a nightmare!

1) sign up for an appointment 2 weeks in advance
2) Take the morning off of work to wait for install guy
3) install guy comes, takes an hour to set up
4) DVR box he leaves is fubar'd (it was a used one)
5) Go to local Comcast center, get new DVR box and another cable box for tv downstairs (they give me another used one)
7) Bring home both, hook them up, call to activate, on hold for 20 mins.
8) DVR okay, new cable box is defective!
9) Go back to Comcast center to get new cable box....
....

WTF, they make you jump through some serious hoops to PAY them money. Why can't they offer night installs? like after 6? And hire more installers so I don't have to wait 2 weeks? Also don't they test these damn boxes before they hand them out? :|

cliffs: comcast sucks.

UPDATE: Comcast semi-sucks now. Everytime I've called for service (like 6 times now) there's 0 hold time. AND it's not like an outsourced call center! I'm truly amazed.

Wow, you expect a company to drop everything and absolutely bend over backwards to conform to your every whim instead of being patient and understanding. Good job.

If you don't like Comcast, then close your account. :)

When i first got cable installed they had to come back three times to fully install it (broadband that is) becuase the idiots couldnt firgure a way to run it through my gutters or soemthing...they wanted to take the easy way and bring it around so it would hang over my porch...and then they tried to use white wire for the outside....

anyways since then i got princeton telecom...

Comcast uses cheap contractors instead of employing folks that they can more directly control (read: slap upside the head when they fvck up)

I haven't either. I've had all of one or two days of missing service and that was years ago. Hell, they even dropped my bill to $25/month for cable internet when I called to cancel my veteran account because DSL was cheaper. They gave me 12 months at that rate because I'd been paying full price for years and they didn't want to see me leave. Retention is a good thing.

i dunno, i've had great experiences with comcast. when i signed up, it was basically plug and play. a few weeks ago,i noticed a severe drop in my rates, and they sent someone out the next day who completely redid all the cabling to my house. i'd highly recommend them just for their service alone.

I didn't whine (that bad) when my Comcast was out from 7PM-7AM last night. I just called them up at 4AM, said "Dude, my stuff doesn't work." They said "The entire Baltimore Metro area got reamed by the thunderstorms that passed through. Give it time." "Kay."

I got 2 defect boxes. I don't think asking for good equipement the first time around is much to ask for is it?

I kinda went through the same thing in HAwaii with Oceanic ( Time warner) when they first rolled out the DVR and HD DVR) I went through like 8 boxes, seems it was thier software.

But they were nice about it and sometimes stuff happens.

No, I don't think that's too much to ask. I also understand that having to make 2 trips is a hastle and costs you unnecessary financial burden. However, it's just freakin gasoline and the people who work at Comcast are indeed human. They make mistakes. The boxes that customers return aren't always flagged for review and customers don't always tell Comcast that they broke the boxes because they dont' want to be charged for new ones. Understanding, mah friend. :)

I had some issues with initial signup as well, but I attribute them not to the company, but to the FSCKING MORON that came to do the initial install. His van broke down, so he got a ride BACK TO HIS HOUSE, picked up his riced out Toyota, drove to his truck, got "his gear" (in other words, a modem and a cable box and his pole climbing shoes, but not any of his tools or even his climbing belt, tossed that in his trunk, came here, tried to climb the pole, failed, jacked our ladder, almost killed himself using that to climb the pole, plugged in the old, heavily corroded cable line (circa 1996) to the old, heavily corroded service junction, went in, plunked down the cable box, modem. Discovered that neither of them got JACK for signal, and the TVs wouldn't even pick up in analog. He said he'd send someone else out to "replace the wiring" (the wiring was guaranteed fine, I'd tested it) within 2 days. 2 days later... Nobody. Call Comcast, the douche never set it up. I set up a line maintainence request. 4 days later, a guy that looked like Drew Carey showed up, this time with an actual van full of shyt. Came inside, plugged his diagnostic crap into the root, said "4db SNR. Nice." Went outside, properly climbed the pole, cleaned the service junction, replaced the connector, came over to the house, replaced the exposed connectors on the exterior, wrapped them in electrical tape, went inside, boom, everything works now. The first dirtbag had also neglected to give me the setup CD for the intarweb, so this guy went and did that for me, called in, set up a month of service credit, and only then did he leave.

I'm understanding. I understand that they better give me some comp credit. The package I'm getting with them (Digital Silver, Internet, 1 DVR, 1 Cable Box, 2 international channels) is coming out to near $150 a month.

Yep...Comcast sucks at their install service, etc... They've never done a good job with those services.

Why should they give you a credit? Did they incorrectly bill you? Overcharge you?

 Of course they have. Maybe the contracting company that Comcast uses in YOUR neighborhood hasn't ever done a good job for you, but saying that they've never done a good job is just stupid.
