Getting around some network Problems at School (packeteer)

Just so I dont get flamed right out, I've talked to my Resnet supervisor, and he doesn't have a problem with me playing Everquest on the schools internet connection (from our apartment). The point of him using packeteer is to block a lot of the more used heavier games (counterstrike, etc). So he can't just turn it off from the UDP packets.... does anyone have any suggestions on how to get around it?

Thanks

I use Packeteer packet shapers religously. They're really granular as to how much application traffic gets so and so bandwidth. Awesome products.

I can't really see a way around it unless he were to create a special application partition just for your particular game and guarantee bandwidth for it. Pshapers can identify application traffic and classify it based on port number, application, protocol number, etc. so if your listening to real-media on port 80 the pshaper will tag it as "real-media" and throttle it accordingly.

I don't have a packeteer, nor have i ever used one (too expensive for me :( ) but i do use a software pshaper on my router. Can't the packeteer shape according to IP and assign priority levels? So instead of just shaping ports, set a high priority on your IP and set the bandwidth for your IP. I don't know how the order of operations would work out, but perhaps that may work.

packetshapers can classify based on a whole slue of criteria including IP address.

What the shaper does after it classifies the traffic is up to the administrator - priority, bandwidth reservation, etc.

any other suggestions?

the network admin might be willing to do this, we have a meeting with her tommorrow, but if there is another way to do this that is less of a hassle for her (if she is even willing to do it) let me know :)

<SPAN style="FONT-SIZE: 10pt; FONT-FAMILY: Arial">The list of recognized games shown here does not list ever quest, so you may be rather limited when trying to improve your bandwidth unless your admin is willing to raise the priority of unknown protocols or give your IP special privlidges. OSU (I don't know where you are talking about) has a packeteer and also blocks all incoming traffic. Here ever quest almost never anymore, and if it does it cuts out for long periods of time.

I copied this message from office because I can't spell (Yes, I went to a public school) and it added all the nice formatting for me. Sorry.
