Getting around a firewall??????????????????/

I am a student at a university. We are on a local network and the network has a firewall. I am wanting to run my ftp server once again, and host online games. However i am not able to do this due to the firewall. If anyone has any info on getting around the firewall or any pertanent info please fill me in. Thanks appreciated

The basic idea behind a firewall is that.... you can't get around it.
Especially if this is a hardware solution. Unless you know someone inside your MIS Dept who would open up port 21 in the firewall for your particular IP then there is no way you can circumvent this. Port 21 is usually opened only for official campus ftp servers or the campus ftp server is outside the firewall.

You may be able to serve files over HTTP (port 80) but even this is very unlikely. On my campus even port 80 is closed for all computers except the main web server.

Serving games over firewall?! Forget it... Even if ya could most firewalls add to the latency of the net connection.
