Hey, should I get the BFG 6800 OC???? For those with this card how is the 2d quality? I've been reading on some other forums that the 2d is not so great. Thanks.

My experience with TWO different BFG 6800GTs was not good. Now it *could* have been that I had two bad cards in a row from different stores, but I rather doubt it. I'd say more likely that is just the way BFGs 2d IS. Now, to be fair I am running 1600x1200 on a 213T, BUT my ATI cards both run it flawlessly.

I was unimpressed with BFG 2d.

Or even more likely, your monitor wasn't good a whole two times in a row. Or your settings were not optimal. Have an LCD? CRT?

I have a BFG 6800GT on a Dell 19" Flat Screen CRT. Looks crisp and clear to me a 1280x960 85Hz.

Since everybody screams about how great 2D quality is on ATI cards, and this seems to be a concern of the OP's, I would suggest an ATI card for him.

Negative. There was (and IS) nothing wrong with my "settings" on my 213T (which is an LCD). To really appreciate the differences I am talking about you would have to see both cards hooked up via DVI just like I had them. The 2d of the nV was NOT the same no matter what I would try to make it better and I tried every setting available. CRT technology just isn't up to the sharpness levels of LCD no matter what unit you're talking about.

Now if you're planning to use this card to display on a CRT monitor, then you'll see no noticable difference between either card. DVI output to an LCD is another matter in my experience.

If you ever give up waiting on the BFG, take a peek at an EVGA. I am quite satisfied with mine. I almost managed to make it a full year without a vid card upgrade, but alas, twas not to be ... that is the most important part of any gamer rig these days.

I was unimpressed with BFG 2d.

I'm unimpressed in general with nvidia's 2d quality regardless of the maker. The 6600gt and 6800nu were more than powerfull enough in games for me, but I found ait's 2d desktop quality much more pleasant.

My buddy is super anal about 2d (CRT), he always ran Matrox. I gave him my old 9800 Pro, half expecting to get it back because of 2d. He was very impressed, he loves playing HL2 and having great 2d and dual monitor support. Nvidia's 2d might be as good, I can't judge those things well.

Whichever fits your price range. Both cards are great.

X800pro = 12 pipes, 475 core, 900 mem
X800XTPE = 16 pipes, 520 core, 1160 mem

Hunt around for the best prices.
