Getting another new pet

We're going to be using her as a livestock guard dog - she's going to live in the barn, rather than in the house with us. Trespassers and predators beware! 🙂 Got a pretty good deal for her - trading a male fainting goat for her.

Awwww, puppy! Those are beautiful dogs. Actually I was just looking at some the other day - they sound like great pets.

If they don't live in the house are they still friendly with all family members? Great looking dog, I prefer short haired (I have 2 Italian mastiffs), but great pyrenees are beautiful.

As far as I know, they are just as friendly toward the people who raise them, even if they're not in the house. Several farms we've visited have these dogs as livestock guard dogs - they all live "outside" (meaning in the barn, their own dog houses, etc.) From what I understand, they're supposed to be incredibly protective. i.e. don't try to stop by at 2am and steal one of my goats 🙂 You'll leave with at least 1 less limb. Even so, they've been incredibly friendly toward me when I've been in pastures with the animals they've been guarding.


But, we've been quite lucky so far... A couple coyotes can do a heck of a lot of damage to our animals in very little time. The pyrenees are quite capable of dealing with coyotes. Heck, they'll defend against wolves and bears. (We occasionally have a black bear in the area.)

GPs are good dogs. not the brightest but still pretty smart. very good farm dog too if you train it properly. very beautiful too 😛 good luck 🙂
