Getting an AGP 6600GT tommorow

Hey, this is my first post ever in this forum. For awhile I have been reading articals on this site, but have never ventured into the forums. Finally though I had to ask a question, and I hope you guys can help. I did use the search button, but none of the topics really fully answered my question.
I am going to order a 6600GT from new egg to run in my system (A7V333 mobo, Amd 2200+, 512 pc2700, maxator 40gig 7200rpm, 380PSU), I know its nothing special but it gets me by for now. The problem is I cant deciede which card to go with. Initially I was leaning towards the MSI card even though the software it comes with doesnt matter to me, but then I read the review on my most trusted hardware site (this one) and it said it had preformed badly. It seems like most reader review rate the MSI card very high though.
So does the MSI card still have the problems that plagued it in the anandtech review? Would you reccomend the leadtech card over it? Thanks for any help!

I read a review on the MSI, but I lost the link, it stated that the HSF on the MSI 6600GT wasn't secured. They had to re-mount it. I love MSI products, but I think I'd go with the Leadtek 6600GT.

Ok, I just checked, and it was the AnandTech review that had the problem with the HSF. This may not be the case with the AGP version.

flip a coin. either will be fine. both are using basically the same components with the same crappy 2 pressure pin mounting system.

I have a leadtek...they are known to have the best 6600gt HSF design...they also run really really cool. either that or i got lucky...mine runs around 41 degrees celcius in idle and about 75 peak. That's pretty good.

Leadtek is very high quality, and i have heard that MSI's HSF on the AGP version isn't that super (and can fall off) so yeah. leadtek

I have the MSI. The first card I received did not have the hsf bracket attached and the heatsink fell off while it was in my case! It seemed secure when I first put it in, and I never thought to check things out closely. The card was never stable in my system to I RMA'd it, thinking some damage had happened when the hsf fell off. The second one I recieved also had problems - it turned out that the card would not work in my ASUS NForce1 motherboard. I swapped motherboards and now finally all is working well.

So now I'm finally happy with the MSI AGP, but I had to go through 2 cards, and swap my trusty ASUS NForce1 motherboard (with nice sound) with my 4 year old son's cheapo Biostar motherboard and crappy sound. Of course I have no idea if the motherboard imcompatibility is MSI's fault, or something general with the 6600GT.

The copper hsf covers the memory on the MSI card, and it has video in. If you want video-in, then the MSI is a decent card, just make sure you inspect the hsf mounting.

If I had to buy again I'd go for the 9800 Pro at $158, and save myself the trouble of having to get a new motherboard (and now a sound card...).

yeah, leadtek is a better. ive seen good reviews about it. the only gripe i have is the card is kinda pain to look at. same old green pcb

Thats not that great. I think my eVGA runs @ 50 idle, 65 peak.

I have the MSI PCI-E version and my temps are 40 idle. And I got a bunch of games I can play and/or sell to cut some of the cost. 😉

i have mine oc'd at 570/1040 and i idle at 40C and under full load its hit 79.... and thats with the stock leadtek heatsink/fan and no ramsinks... also preforms very well

I read some bad press on MSI cards lately and mobos, user claimed he was die hard fan but MSI been letting it slip lately.

6600 GT is good card but cant u dig bit deeper and get a 6800 and may be unlock to 16 pipes and you will at least ahve 256bit memory ?.

Leadtech are a good brand but that cooler on the 6800U is a joke and runs hotter than my own 6880U lol, looks like a tank and atill only 400/1100 not 425/1100 like some makes.
