Getting a tidy tax return this year, I'm looking at getting a widescreen TV.....

Hey guys, just filed electronically, and found out I'm getting back around $950 this year total!!!!! Yay for me. Anywho, this is a LOT of money to me, and I have wanted a widescreen TV for the longest time. With my DirecTV equipment coming in tomorrow, HDTV might be in future :D.

With the amount of money I make, I can't build too much on what I'm getting back, so I'm looking to spend no more than $1200.

What I'm looking for:

- HAS to be widescreen
- HAS to be HDTV ready
- somewhere in the 30" to 47" range, really no bigger
- a couple of component inputs would be nice, but I'm pushing it with my price range

That's the basic stuff. I know there are some nice TVs in my price range out there, I just need help looking. Can you guys give any suggestions to some of the nicer widescreens on the lower end of the price spectrum? I am also assuming I will only be able to afford rear projections. Are there any other cheap technologies out there I don't know of?

Thanks for any suggestions, I'm hoping for my return in a couple of weeks. And don't tease me with those LCDs and plasmas!!

Congrats :). You might go to a store like circuit city or best buy and see what you like best and fit your budget. Since I have neither stores where I live, Sears had a samsung 42" projection screen on sale, which I like.

For 1200 your only option is RP CRT based. LCD is too much $$$. Plasma, forget it. Direct view widescreens can be expensive as well. Toshiba makes a 42" TV that is around $1300. If you catch a 10% weekend you can do it. Now, what about that extended warranty?!

I have seen the deal on Best Buy at the moment, MustISO, but I won't be completely ready to go for another couple weeks barring any complications with my return. I was pretty much aware that a rear projection CRT is my only option, and am comfortable with that. I may try to gather extra cash somehow or another, but somewhere around $1200 is ideal for me right now.

Bump. I saw this at Circuit City today, and wouldn't mind something like this. I don't like this model in particular, but something similar (and better looking) would be great.

Any sites out there have just a complete listing of TVs available? Best Buy and Circuit City's websites just doesn't whet my appetite at all.

Instead of going on a spending spree why don't you think about saving that money?

I'm getting back about $4500. Of course, I have to pay my propert taxes for last and this year so there goes $2500 of it. I've thought about a tv myself.

Because this is something I've always wanted, and life isn't fun if you go around saving every penny you have :D. Plus, tax refunds are free money, atleast that's how I look at it.
