As the topic says, I'll be getting a Q9450 CPU with the intention of overclocking it. Are there any specific steppings to look out for?

Thanks.

There has only been one public stepping so far: C1. Anything else would be an engineering sample.

theres a limited jessica simpson brand with her face holografed on the IHS for bling.!

:p j/k

As of right now, not enough in database to tell you what batches are good. You cant mirror the QX steppings because its a different stepping altogether. :T

Your basically pulling a white rabit out of the hat. How high it jumps, is dependant on how lucky of a rabit you pull out.

Also if I remember correctly, this chip is being discontinued, and will not recieve the new stepping that the rest of the Wolfies/Yorkies are getting soon.

yes I know the chip will be EOL soon, but I don't wanna pay extra for the 9550.

If the pricing is as it should be, the 9550 will cost the same as the 9450 does now... or at least they will cost the same in lots of 1000.

all they're doing is bumping up the multi .5 on the current 45nm quads. Q9300 is going from 7.5 to 8.0 and they're changing the name to Q9400. Q9450 is going from 8.0 to 8.5 and they're calling it Q9550. Q9550 is going from 8.5 to 9.0 and they're calling it Q9650. changes won't be out until july.

9300 has only 6mb of cache, whereas the 9450 has 12...

The only difference between the 9450 and the 9550 is .5 multiplier (8 to 8.5, or 2.66ghz to 2.83ghz)

The best deal, therefore, is the q9450

What does this mean for overclocking? Will the new Q9550 (July 2008 model) overclock better than the current Q9450? Is the current Q9450 a better deal than the upcoming revised Q9550?
