getting a PSP want to get hombrew. is getting the psp 3000 version ok?

as the title suggest. i want to get a PSP. heard that the new psp 3000 are good units but can't put homebrew on them. so sh ould i get the older psp 2000?

i have a $50 gift card to Bestbuy and was going to get it.

Nope, the 3000 units are unable to run homebrew as Sony locked down the battery trick to put the PSP into service mode. Also, some 2000 units also have a newer motherboard model in them that will not allow you to mod them either.

Do a google search and you will find the answers to what you need.

The 3000 screen is jacked anyway. The betterPSP is the 2000.

I bought mine used and it is great. I love playing PS1 games on it. FF7 is awesome on it.

Has anyone actually used a PSP 3000 and compared it to a PSP 2000? The only evidence I've seen is a couple of extreme close-up screenshots where both versions had scan lines but one was slightly more evident than the other (3000 and 2000, respectively). I'd be interested in seeing some video of the problem, if it can even be documented in this way.

It was hacked about 3 weeks ago, but the 2000 is easier for homebew.

from what i hear the hack that is claimed is a lie. all it does is turn on the power light but you can't do anything with it.

Nope, the 3000 hack was just a rumor.

And again, the 2000 is easier, but you have to make sure you get the right model number, as the latter ones shipped with a different motherboard.

Personally, I'd look around for a fat 1000 series myself. The only difference between the 1000 and 2000 model series is a lack of tv-out functionality, however there is a homebrew hack that allows you to hook up the PSP via USB and output the video to your monitor.

If the psp 1000 is the original model, before the slim, I have that and am selling it. Works flawlessly, looks immaculate, comes with charger. Make me an offer.

This will allow you to rollback the firmware to use a custom firmware that allows for homebrew.

HOWEVER: There is no custom firmware for it yet, seeing as how this was just recently put online to be sold no one has released any firmware for it.

The 1000 also has less RAM and can't charge via USB (without hacking up a cable).

I like my 1001, though. It has an IR port which allows me to use it as a universal remote (latest version of iR Shell supports remote learning), and type on an IR keyboard (for PSPSSH, PSPIRC, etc.).

But to answer the OP's question, no, I wouldn't get a PSP-3000 right now if you want to use CFW & homebrew anytime soon.
